400ex full throttle issue

Recently picked up a 2000 400ex. It had a knock off carb on it so I replaced it with an oem one. The issue I’m facing is when I’m at a low idle speed and punch the throttle it’ll bog down for a second or 2 and then take off. If I ease into the throttle it runs perfect. The 400 is all stock, i just recently added a fuel filter, changed the jets to 148/38, and added a new spark plug.

TRX 300 weird vibration

Hi,
I’m new to the forum and this is my first post so here goes.

I have a Trx 300 Awd, and there is a weird vibration and noise appeared ill try to explain it best I can, sitting on the bike with both feet on the pegs as I squeeze the throttle gently at very minimal rev’s I can hear a vibration down to my left foot and I can feel it through my left foot vibrating through the peg.

so far so good, it certainly from that side of the bike and it only lasts or seems to happen at a certain rev point as it passes when I apply more throttle. This is the case when in neutral and driving in gear, would I be right in saying that the drive to the rear wheels is down that side could it be something to do with that.

Any thoughts ideas would be great, Would it still be ok to use to use or should I get to the bottom of this first?

thanks

scott

New (kinda) 02′ Trx400ex

Well after years of searching my wife and I came up with the perfect plan. Since she wants reverse and I don’t really care, I’m inheriting her ex and eventually we’ll find her and 05+. She can’t ride for about 9 months anyway (yup that’s why ) They bought it brand new of the showroom floor so I know everyone who’s ridden it and the care that’s gone in to it.

We’ve all ready put a little bit of work in to it; White brothers E series, K&N air filter, 40 pilot and 150 main. Since its now mine I can go nuts and add all the stuff I want; ditch the k&n for a uni, new clutch (it’s been the family’s learning bike so it’s starting to go,) 10.5 or 11:1 wiseco, stage 1 hotcam, 450r carb, and all the rest is cosmetic stuff. For a 13 year old machine that’s never been opened up it’s in immaculate condition. So now some picks

2000 400ex smoke under acceleration

Hey guys, I’ve been out of the Atv game for a year or so but I recently picked up a 2000 400ex that needed some work. When I bought it she had some carb issues, some how the screws came off the slide so the slide was not lifting. I fixed and rebuilt the card and it runs greats. When I took it out for her first ride I noticed when I give it a lot of gas it will blow blueish white smoke (oil). It does not have any powerloss, the oil seemed a bit watery so I changed it but it still smokes. Sometimes it seems to go away, my question is do you think it’s valve seals or rings? It idles fine and there is no smoke at idle. There is also no weird engine noises. The quad is all stock besides no air box lid and I have the air fuel screw turned out 2 turns. I thought it was just rich at first but fuel would be black ish smoke. If anyone could help me out that would be great! Thanks, nick!

86 TRX350 No Spark

I am new here and thanks for having me. I have had this unit for six years and it has been great. I have put a lot of money into it and I know her pretty well. Her name is Rhonda (Red Honda). She has run all over the Colorado Elk hunting land and Texas. The last two years she has intermittently not started right up even after being run for an hour or so.

***I always have a new spark plug and super unleaded gas.
***She ran fine a month ago, but starting was difficult.
***The exciter coil reads 143 Ohms.
***I guess I don’t have an alternator sensor wire since it is a 1986.
***Do I have a CDI module? No yellow wires to the thing under the front left fender. Just the three-yellow-wire connector under the seat to the rectifier.
***Pulse generator reads 344 ohms.
***My meter isn’t great, but I think the ignition coil is OK at 0.2 Ohms.
***Secondary winding test through the spark plug cap is 9.4K Ohms.
***Secondary test with spark plug cap removed is "HIGH" at 9.35K ohms.
***Neutral switch shows continuity in neutral and infinity in gear.
I am thinking my problem centers around the two wires going to the coil. Even though my battery shows 12-13 volts, when I turn over the starter the two wires only put out 7-10 volts. I think this voltage drop is also hampering my new fuel pumps operation. Other than that Rhonda is a tank, like ya’ll say. Any help would be just great! I will be sure to give everybody follow-up info on what the cure is.

87 trx350 crankcase breather tank

I have been going through my new toy and looking at the vent lines for the crank case, fuel tank and carb and theee is supposed to be a box for the crankcase buy it’s not on here as in someone tossed it in the trash.

Can I just put a small open filter on it to vent? Or is there another better way?

86 TRX250 backfire through carb

Good day sirs,

My 86 TRX250 is backfiring through the carb at low idle. Trying to eliminite possible causes of this before I start checking things out.

Anyone have experience with this? Would adjusting the valves fix it? Could it be caused by a bad clutch one-way bearing?

I just rebuilt the carburetor and it seems to run ok at higher RPMS, just a random backfire through the carb at low RPM.

Any help is appreciated.

WTB A few parts for my 1987 TRX 350

Hey guys, I’m in the process of semi-restoring my 87 TRX 350 and I’m looking for a few parts….looking for one of those round black plastic frame caps, the rear rack piece that goes over the toolbox lid, and an owners manual. Anyone have these? Thanks
