Emergency tool questions

Hey Folks,
I am the new owner of a 2012 Rancher 420 FE, for some reason it came with the wrong owners manual. I have ordered what I think will be the correct one but I would like to ask a couple questions.
I’ve been reading about the emergency shift tool. Is it supposed to be stored under the seat, because I can’t find it? What does it look like? Also, I read in the online manual that you use it on some shaft at the front of the motor, I can’t find that either. Also, does the electric shift model use the same oil filter as the manual shift in my 2012 model?
Thanks in advance for your response.

07 Honda Rancher 420 Question

I was riding my rancher last weekend and got stuck in some really trick soupy mud. When my buddies started pushing me out I heard this clunking noise and the rear wheels would not spin. I was assuming the rear end broke seeing how they tend to do that on Hondas. So I put it on a jack and put it in gear and noticed that the top part of the drive shaft that connects to the motor was spinning but not the shaft. Then I turned it off and turned my tires with my hand and it moved both tires and the shaft but not the part connected to the motor.
So my question is, is the pinion broken or is it just this drive shaft. This is much first time having this problem and not sure on what to do next. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

2013 420 AT Power Steering

So maybe this has been covered or maybe it hasn’t but I can’t seem to find what I am looking for.

I have / had a 2013 420AT that I have put a decent amount of work into but the only downside is that it doesn’t have the factory power steering. Also, lets be clear that the bike is not getting sold or traded for one that does have power steering. I physically can’t swing that after the last purchase that led to this thread.

The rancher was mine but the lady wanted to get more active in the sport so I suggested that we take a few trips to see if it was what she really wanted to do. My buddy had a Rincon that I could borrow so we went on two wheeling trips. The first one was 90mi in two days at AOAA and the other was 40mi at Lost Trails. After these trips I lost the bike to her and went searching for my dream bike. Sorry folks but, I made the jump to BRP and picked up a leftover 2015 800R XTP.

So enough back story and back to why I started this thread. SuperATV used to make a power steering kit for the rancher. This is no longer the case and they only produce a universal kit. After much searching I finally found the original instructions for the rancher kit that they no longer make to compare it along side with the one that they do make.

The main differences are in the SuperATV kits are the steering stems and linkage used. I have been searching eBay and have found used power steering stems from Ranchers and other various parts. I know Super ATV has their own ECU but I do not know how it operates; same with Honda’s. I have found nearly all the parts from the Honda system used as well.

Does anyone know the spline count on the Honda stem?
Does anyone know the spline count on the SuperATV unit?

I am either going to try and make the universal kit work or buy all the parts for the Honda unit and try to make that work. Wanted to hear your thoughts on the matter.

Thanks,
Mark

01 Rancher 350 Pinion Damage

I was wondering if the damage to this pinion was enough to warrant replacing.
The swingarm cracked and pulled the driveshaft forward while running and it chipped/rounded the front leading edge of the splines on the pinion
Have new driveshaft and it fits tight on the undamaged area of the splines
without the out the spring on, just wanted some input on this.
Just dont know how much the shaft moves back and forth on the pinion as the suspension flexes. any advice or help is appreciated.
PS- cleaned out all the chips from differential and it chewed up the spring too
all is clean and bearing smooth and tight just curious on the pinion spline edge.
Thanks

Ready to give away free 06 Rancher 400 (carb issues)

Ok, so obviously I’m new here and honestly it’s been years since I’ve even posted on any kind of forum but I’m desperate for help before I set this thing on fire. OK here goes, bought the bike a few weeks ago, it ran without problems when I picked it up, only problem with it was the rear end needed to be rebuilt, so I spent a good 2 weeks between work freshening all that up, so finally when it was ride – able again, I noticed the carb overflowing. Pulled it apart and gave it a good cleaning, still no good, so I bought a rebuild kit and got to work. This being my first time rebuilding a carb I was very careful and followed the manual to a T. Got it all together, no more leak, idled perfectly but now it would want to fall on its face as soon as I gave it gas. Feeling that I may have messed something up, I brought it to a good friend who is a mechanic (who works on outboard engines specifically) to go through the carb to make sure I did everything correctly. Well aside from one of the jets not being seated all the way down, everything else looked fine and we put it back together and it ran great. Get it home, finshing putting the plastics together, tried running it again a few days later and it went back to running like crap. Well I finally traced this problem to some bad fuel that was left in the tank from the previous owner. I’ve flushed the tank, changed the fuel lines, changed the inline filter, tore the carb apart one more time and cleaned it all out, put everything back together. Started it last night and it idles, and I can give it about 1/8th throttle before it starts breaking up. Every time that I have taken the carb apart I set the pilot screw to 2 1/4 turns out and every time adjusting the pilot screw does pretty much nothing. I’m at a loss right now and there has to be something I’m missing or something else that might be causing this. The only thing I can think is there might be some junk inside the carb that I’m moving around when I spray it down and blow it out but I’m not getting it completely out, which would explain why the problem keeps moving. Like I said though I need help, I just want to ride it and it’s busting my butt instead. PLEASE someone help me!! Thanks to anyone who actually read all of that. Oh and aside from that, I’ve also changed the air filter, spark plug, oil and filter.

2014 420 rear drive shafts question

there is a metal cap that fits over the rear end where the shafts enters the rear end. While washing my ATV I noticed it was hanging around the shafts freely.

My question, what possible problems am I facing with this and how do I put it back on?

Fuel line tool?

I’m working on a 2012 Rancher TRX420TEC. In reference to the fuel line that comes out of the pump assembly and goes toward the engine, there is that frustrating little green plastic clip that’s a real pain to get off. I heard there was a special tool to remove/release those clips. Does anyone know if this is true? What is this tool called? Thanks.
