Hey all. I’m new here and also new to Hondas and quads but not new to twisting wrenches, 4x4s, or searching the interwebs! Lol
I picked up this quad in a trade and I got the better end of the deal. (That’s a fact) I haven’t seen it run but the guy seemed honest. He said it needed an ignition switch and a battery.
I’ve bought both – when I go to hook the positive to the battery the starter runs.
No matter if the key is on or off or if the kill switch is off. Touch the positive to the batt and starter runs..
Two things I noted,
there was a pink wire close to the battery that is disconnected and doesn’t seem to have an other end.
there is what looks to be a fat jumper between the + and – on the starter solenoid It doesn’t look like it’s not supposed to be connected, but it also doesn’t make much sense when I follow the wiring scheme

I just picked up a motor off of an 88 fourtrax and I plan on putting a 355 kit in it. I want to put an oil cooler on it to keep it from over heating. How do I go about installing an oil cooler and what oil cooler should I use? Any other good performance mods for the motor please let me know. It’s going to be going on an 85 big red.

Hey guys I’m new to this forum. I have a problem. Bought a 87 Foreman 350 off a farmer which ran when I got it. Had to replace frame so transferred all to a new/used frame and a buddy of mine took wiring off and installed it back on rebuild. I’m trying to start it and getting no spark. Replaced solenoid and fuel pump relay because I grounded pump when I tried starting it one time by accident and I thought it shorted the relay. I did find that the blue/yellow wire from pulse generator does not go to anything on harness and can’t find where it would go, my buddy that helped didn’t remember if it went to anything. Tested wire and there is power from it when cycling motor. Saw where a blue/yellow wire goes into cdi for pulse generator so I jumped wire since I can’t find where it plugs in and got spark. Motor backfired then puffed a little black smoke which it puffed when it ran. Thought I might mess it up so took jump wire off. Any ideas I’m getting pretty frusrated been a headache since I bought it but to much invested to give up now. Thank you.
I was trying to put after market exhaust on my Fourtrax but can’t find anything for it. Is there anything that will interchange from another model? Thanks
Having trouble with es on 450 foreman. Shifting works fine sometimes other times while riding can’t down shift. But can turn engine off then restart it will work fine then quit again. Another thing my display works sometimes.
Hey guys! Love this forum and have learned a lot! So heres where I am. Standard bought a fourtrax that had been sitting, yada yada yada. Carburetor had been rebuilt, new cv joints, and new battery by previous owner 10 months ago. Its sat ever since then. He had put seafoam in it to help sell it (talks like it was a pretty good amount). Charged the battery overnight and I ran it up in the hills for probably a total of 10 hours. Now itll crank over (1-2 times) battery dies but starts sometimes and when I press the throttle it automatically dies. Got to looking and a decent amount of rust in the tank. Drained tank thinking gas was old and/or to much seafoam (is that possible).
Questions….
A. Need good replacement tank, cut off valve, etc estimate $150-200.00 for both/shipping? Should I look to junkyards? Likely going to get a new battery too.
B. Whats going on with the throttle? Possible fuel issues? Stopped up valve? Looks rusty. Probably already covered somewhere, just point me in the right direction.
Oil change coming tomorrow, had to wait to pickup oil filter.
