honda fourtrax 300 rear double axle nuts

Hi,

I am trying to remove the rear double axle nuts from the differential side of my honda fourtrax 300 4×4. I have the 41mm wrenches and even with another person I am unable to budge the nuts loose. I have repeatedly soaked the nuts in marvel mystery oil and still they will not budge. Just confirming that the nuts loosen counterclockwise? (Not a left hand thread )

Thinking about ordering one of these axle nut tools for an impact. Anyone have any experience with this tool?

1986 TRX350 oil leak

Hey everyone. Just got a 86 foreman for next to nothing. I didn’t get around to messing with it yet, but the guy out oil in and started it so I could at least hear it runs good. Its pouring oil pretty good out of the crankcase gasket. My question is, do these gaskets just go? Or is there a problem with the crankcase cover? He said it just started leaking one day. Its coming out of the top seam of the cover.

1988 FourTrax 2wd300 – old tires/wheels. Need upgrade size!

Hello all. I have my original 1988 2wd. It is in good shape but has been sitting in the shop for many years. One of the rear tires have rotted and the bead is garbage. I would like to get away from the ‘balloon’ style tires / 9" rim altogether.
What size tire / wheel would fit on the rear and still be level? a 12" rim? offset? Tire size?
I don’t ride it much, but I live in Denver CO and there are some nice trails / rocky paths that I would like to explore soon.
I plan to replace the front wheels and tires soon as well. Right now, I need to get the rears figured out as I need to move soon.

Thanks for your input and experience!

2001 recon question

Ok guys and gals my son’s cousin was riding his Recon the other day it was running great no issues at all and as I understand the story she was riding in 3rd gear maybe at a high rpm and geared down, and then the quad died, and will not start back. When turning the motor over it just didn’t sound right. And when I say that it wasd almost like when you have a bad plug there is no meat to the sound. So I changed the plug and still nothing, I checked and it has a strong blue spark while laying on the head of the motor. I chocked it and tried to start it and all I got was a couple loud backfires. Any one have any suggestions on what could be wrong with it?

2015 Rubicon ES questions

I have a 2015 Rubicon DTC ES and auto transmission. The question, when in ES mode and at a stop should I be able to shif up to 2nd or 3rd before moving. I can not. If I try it goes to 2nd and right back to 1str. If I try this two or three times it shows a dash mark on the display. I have asked the Honda dealer this question and have recieved different answeres depending on who I ask. The other question I have, when in ES mode and 5th gear and begin to slow down the transmission shifts down depending on speed and will go all the way to 1st gear if I come to a complete stop. I thougt it would stop at 3rd gear. Mabey this is all normal. The machine is 150 miles from a dealer and I do not want to bring into the dealer if this is norma operation. If anyone has a 2015 Rubicon that could verify this it would be appreciated.

Thank You,

Larr

2015 Rubicon: First Ride

Took the new quad out for it’s first ride. It how has a total of 6 hours. It was a good mixture of wide open spaces and tight trails with VERY steep inclines/declines and lots of creek riding and mud. A very nice verity to test the capability of the 2015 Rubicon. My model is the TRX500FA6 which has independent rear suspension, power steering and the dual-clutch transmission (DCT) w/ESP manual option.

A few observations:

1. First, this quad is f**king awesome!

2. I was surprised the places it could go WITHOUT 4WD engaged. I was using it way too often in the beginning until I got to know its capabilities.

3. I didn’t get stuck once (maybe I wasn’t trying hard enough). There was one instance where I was trying to go up a vertical creek bank and it just wouldn’t go. The quad was pretty much sticking almost straight up. Had it in Low and in 4WD, but still couldn’t crawl it up and over. I was thinking about using the winch, but I thought I would try the differential locker first. I engaged the locker and BAM! Up and over she went with no problem. It was a really good feeling.

4. I pulled a Yamaha Grizzly out of a hole.

5. I’ve heard folks state that the DCT can have a hard time finding the correct gear, especially when going up steep hills. I didn’t experience that at all. I used the auto DCT the entire trip.

6. Once warmed up, the DCT shifted VERY smoothly. No harsh shifting up or down like some have stated.

7. When going down very steep hills (using the automatic DCT) it crawled down perfectly slow in first gear without me having to touch the brake. The engine braking is amazing.

8. It was about 80 F outside and the coolant bar graph didn’t go over 2 out of 5 bars the entire time.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I’m sure I’m missing something.

Bear Claw Tires

Hi guys, sorry if this is a newb question. I’m not too knowledgeable on tires.

I have a 1985 Honda Fourtrax 250 and was thinking of getting new tires but sticking with the factory rims.

The factory tires on the rims are;
Front – 21 x 7 x 10
Rear – 25 x 12 x 9

Options for those sizes is very limited and I wanted to do something to bring up the front end a bit.

I was looking into getting some Bear Claw tires through Royal Distributing.
Front – 23 x 7 x 10
Rear – 25 x 12.5 x 9

Will height increase in the front cause any significant problems? (i.e. clearance & turrning)

Will the width of 12.5 fit on the factory rims that are 12 wide? (the bear claw tires are not available in 25x12x9)

If this isn’t a good option what would be a better option?

Thanks!
