Anyone ever fabbed up new shocks on an 86/87 TRX350?

I’m considering taking off my shocks on my TRX350 to measure them then look into a more currant shock that I could fab up to fit. I’m sure there aren’t much that are a direct fit otherwise there’d be more info on that solution so I’ll end up having to fab shock mounts I’m sure but was wondering if anyone else has done anything like this? I absolutely love the 350 but the ride is so harsh on the trails around here it’s almost not enjoyable. I’m sure there is a honda shock that’s close in length that’s a little more plush but I’ll have to make sure the travel is correct.

New to me FourTrax 300 – Using oil

Hello All,
I’ve been lurking in here for the past week trying to absorb as much information as I can from you folks.
Here is my story: I picked up a 1995 FourTrax 300 4×4 on Monday.
I had my first real opportunity to ride it on Saturday for about two hours (maybe 20 miles of grassy trails and gravel roads) The oil level before the ride was half way up the stick on level ground. Two hours later, the oil was not even touching the stick. I had to add quite a bit to get it back to the halfway mark. It fires right up, idles fine, and has a good amount of power. Runs perfect. It does not smoke or have any smell of smoke in the exhaust at idle. At WOT it doesn’t leave a trail of smoke from what I could tell. No oil spots in the trailer either. Having previously had "good deals" turn into projects, I was really paying attention to how it sounded and if it was smoking. I’m baffled. Any ideas?

I once had an ’86 LT230 that smoked like a chimney but the oil level never dropped like this did.

If we are talking top end work here, how much am I looking at?

Thank you,

ES shift motor

Have 1998 Honda foreman 450es nothing has been changed as shift motor or angle sensor. Something’s it won’t shift from 2nd to 3rd.Then it will shift being bike is 17Yrs old. Thinking of changing shift motor an angle sensor.

Put together at TDC on exhaust stroke (respectfully searched and read)

Please…
Seems as though I get the engine back in TDC for exhaust stroke (again as originally and erroneously) then take cam out and rotate it 180 degrees (although a contested term relative only to cam and not cycle), realign and done, right? I’ve searched and read and had this turkey down to last thrust washer until now. Fixing to start it and realized oops! Any thoughts? No pushrods, only two lobes, seems that simple.
Thank you for any time afforded in reply!

fourtrax 300 front bumper difference between years

Hi,

I need a front bumper for my 1990 honda fourtrax 300 4×4 that I am restoring. I am looking for a brand new replacement bumper. Apparently the front bumper for 90-92 is part number 81150-HC5-900, but the front bumper for 93-00 is part number 81150-HC5-970. For some reason, I can get the 93 plus bumper for cheaper and was wondering if it will fit my 90 fourtrax.

Thanks in Advance.

oil leak woes

I Went to honda and told them I needed every gasket and or seal that went north of the head gasket on my new to me 350 (87). All they came up with were two o rings for the valve covers.
I used purple power, a brush and a pressure washer and got it pretty clean and let it run a while. Finally found the leak under the rocker box (I assume it’s called), where apparently it is just a machined surface with no gasket. So I thought the bolts might not be torqued down right (hoped) but the one directly under the top motor mount is either stripped (I seriously doubt it) or the threads in the head are stripped, which is much more likely, especially with my luck.
So it looks like the oil leak is on hold till I get a manual, to see what kind of can of worms I will be getting to pulling the rocker box to put a helicoil in the head.

Anybody ever installed a helicoil in their head?
