The charging system in my fourtrax has never worked since I’ve owned it. Recent problems have forced me to address the issue. Tonight, I started to disassemble things to replace the stator, and when I removed the cover, oil poured out. Where do I go from here? Is this going to be a huge pain in the butt?

I have a 95 fourtrax 300 and when I got it the oil filter was in backwards. so of course it fried the top end. I installed a new cam and 2 new rocker arms, set valve lash at .006” on intake and exhaust, and put it back together. the horrible ticking noise is still just as bad as it was before. it also has absolutely no power at all. I can take the timing chain tensioner out and cant put it all the way back in so the chain should be fine. the no power issue im guessing is a timing issue maybe being one tooth off. im just at a loss as to what could still be making noise. also does it matter whether I used silicone or an actual gasket on the right side cover? I used silicone after I messed up the new gasket.

New to the forum and hoping you can help. Let me start by saying I’m not very mechanical, but my father in law is. He does not know how to use a computer though so I am posting. Took the engine from a 1992 Honda and put it into my 1990. The new engine works fine. After the complete install, unable to start the machine. It will turn over no problem, and when putting power to the fuel pump it works. There is no spark to the plug. The machine will turn over with the left hand switch in any position. Any help or suggestions are very much appreciated. Thanks

When starter initiated, the kick start lever moves to the rear an inch or so with each turn of the motor. Any ideas? Was getting ready to put gas in but, hmmm.

1987 350 FourTrax. I just rebuilt the motor along with new clutches and one way bearing while I had it all open. Put it all back together and it runs better than the day it came off the show room floor. However, it now will not move. When you put it in gear and the machine will slightly jump like normal (no grinding) but it will no move on its own. If you rev it wide open it looks like the wheels will try to move but it could just be from the vibration. What could I have missed? Drove fine when I pulled it in the garage to do the motor build. Oh and yes I did soak the clutches in oil for a couple days before I installed them. This will be the third time taking the side cover off to try and figure something out. I would love it if you all could tell me exactly what I screwed up. :icon_ cry:
