2012 trx500 foreman no power after idle

Hello new here I have a 2012 trx500 runs fine but after it idles about 10 mins or longer get back on to take off will rev a little then just bogs. it did it yesterday and had some carb cleaner next to it so popped air box lid off sprayed in while trying to rev and took off till i quit spraying. still idles fine. Think fuel pump is getting hot and quitting? Sometime going down road it’ll just lose all power too.

Researching the 2015/16 Rubicon…

Some background on me…I have owned one ATV, still have it technically but it has been sold to friend under a payment plan…it is/was a 2003 Polaris Sportsman 500 HO, I bought it new in late 2002, its been a pretty good machine for hunting but the CVT has given me some grief over the years (wet belt) …my primary use for an ATV is hunting, but I am looking to do some mowing with this new one as well.

I have some questions I can’t seem to find the answers to…

1- Whats the top speed in low range 5th gear on the DCT equipped model? What I’m wondering here is how it’ll be cruising across the open field then coming up on a steep hill…with the CVT, unless I want to hit the hill at a pretty good speed I have to stop and shift into low range to climb the hill nice and easy…otherwise its hard on the belt….wondering if the DCT will suffice at buzzing around through the hills and hollers in low range, without being too slow.

2- Am I right to believe the manual transmission will do better at mowing steep hills with a pull behind finish mower than the DCT?

3- Are there any known bugs in the new Rubicon design and if so, what are they?

That said, I’m probably gonna get the manual shift model (FM5)…but I’m not buying anything until about March, I’m just doing my homework.

The ATV will remain bone stock…I’m not interested in any modifications of any kind, except maybe a winch and a 2" reciever…maybe….I’m in need of a tool, not a toy.

Thank You

TRX 400 4×4 Losing Spark

We have a 99? TRX 400 4×4 that we use for spray duty in the spring and summer. It’s been largely trouble free until now.

The oil temp light has come on and off occasionally, even when the temp was below freezing. The fan always seemed to come on so I wasn’t that concerned about it, and the light seemed to stay off after using the bike for awhile.

It began stalling while hot, and wouldn’t restart until it cooled. I thought it was a fuel delivery issue, so I cleaned the carb and verified petcock flow. After I got it back together, it started and ran for 10 or 15 minutes, then stalled and wouldn’t start. Had plenty of fuel in the bowl. The oil light was not on during this period.

I checked for spark at that time and found none. I’ve been busy and it’s been sitting for a week, but today I flipped the key on, and the oil light lit up, and it has spark again.

I read somewhere that the temperature module can kill spark if the engine gets too hot, and that would make sense, since my module has been flaky for the past couple years.

Does anyone have any suggestions about how to proceed further, and how the temperature control system works on this bike?

Oil Leak From….?

I have a 2007 TRX 500 FE/FPE 4×4 ES that just started to leak some oil. I noticed the other day when I was rolling in neutral that that the drive shaft was sounding a little rough. 2 days later I go into the garage and there was a silver dollar sized oil puddle right beneath the boot covering the drive shaft. At least I assume it is the drive shaft.

I have attached some pics. The oil was on the boot where the rear end attaches to the engine if that helps. I am hoping that someone can help me diagnose the problem and pose some solutions. I am pretty handy fixing cars but have not needed to do anything to my 4 wheeler since I have owned it.

I would be interested in buying a service manual if anyone knows of a good source for a digital/paper copy.

Thanks!

Eric
