Hillbillied with a switch.

Hi all,

Again, 1986 Fourtrax 350 4X4: on the starboard side, behind the break peddle, right over the foot peg is a metal cover held on with 2 bolts. Behind that cover is a divice that screws into the case with 2 wires coming out of it. At least one is green, they both may be…

The last owner disconnected those two wires from the device, hooked on extention wires and ran them up to the handle bars and put them on a toggle switch. The wires that are connected to the thing screwed in the case just dangle. Can anyone tell me what those wires run? The device screwed into the case must be a pressure or temp switch to turn something on and off…

Thank you

1986 honda trx350 gear oil ?

What kinda oil does the transmission take for the gears in it I assume gear oil 90 weight. I have a 1986 Honda trx 350 4×4 runs and drives amazing was getting it ready for hunting season and notice the transmission fluid level was low but couldn’t find an answer to what goes in it? any help would be appreciated

locked wheels

Nope, its not the breaks… I just got a 1986 Honda fortrax 350 4X4. Rebuilding it. my only real problem is all 4 wheels are "locked". It is NOT in gear. You use the kick starter and it does not lurch forward, shift it up to first, kick it, it lurches forward, put it back in neutral, kick it, no lurch. Put it in nuetral and try to push it and all four wheels are locked like its in gear. but… they are not locked up solid, I towed it with my tractor and the wheels, all of them spin…

Its like the engine is in nuetral but not the wheels. Pick it off the ground and spin 1 tire and they all spin but 2 of them spin in one direction, and two in the other direction.

Help please.

New ATV’s

Howdy folks ,
My wife and I bought a new pair of Honda Foreman Fourtrax Rubicon’s this year . These are the very first ATV’s we’ve ever owned in our lives . ( Although have ridden motorcycles for over 40 years ) . We haven’t ridden them off road yet , just a few spins around our neighborhood because we just got them, and I’m nursing a broken and crushed ankle . But we look forward to using them soon .
Looking forward to meeting people and having fun.

Engine rebuilder 87 TRX250

I have a 87 TRX250 I got new in 87 when I was 12, and have restored it to like new condition. The top end is shot (it runs, idles fine, does not smoke) but makes some noises, which I am thinking is the timing chain or valve train. The valves are set to spec. In was run with the oil filter installed backwards at one point  .

I’m located in S.D, and nit near a reputable small engine rebuilder. Would like to either send the entire engine or top end out for overhaul.

Anybody know of a good shop?

Engine swap troubles…

My brother in law went last night to pick up a parts bike to get his 96 rolling (different story). The one we went to get is a 87 250 frame with aa newer 300 engine. Well the rear end would not swap over so we figured we would take a shot at getting this one running.

We found a wiring diagram for a 87 fourtrax, started at the battery and right off the bat found a blown fuse. Replaced the fused and popped again, long story short tracked it down to a grounded wire going into the ignition switch, fixed that and wow the motor turns over with the starter and sounds great!

After not starting we done the obvious and changed plugs, and made sure we were getting gas. No problem, check the coil for voltage during start and I get 0.0 DC and .5 AC so enough to say no fire to the coil. Thought the cdi was bad. (this is where I’m needing help) The cdi has an 8 pin top plug CDI. I found out the same as 98~00 trx 300. Well I’m having trouble finding the correct pin out wiring diagram for this one. Any help would be great. Will post pix in the next post.
