Fuel additive

Any riders out there have any suggestions on a fuel additive ?? I have an occasional bogging issue here n there. Before I take apart the carb, Id like to try something a little easier…a fellow rider suggested using 93 instead of 87 octane…. maybe its just a little dirt or buildup in the carb …. Whats safe for my 450 motor ?? seafoam ? additive ?

2012 700 eps 4×4 engaging

Recently the 4×4 will engage on start up without any input from the rider. When it started it would engage and then disengage and be done. Now it is starting to do it multiple times. I read that this was a problem on some years…what is the fix??

2016 Grizzly Cable Management

IMO Yamaha has never been super-awesome with cable management and the bars always looked messy to me.

But it wasn’t until I replaced the bar headlight bulb, that I noticed something wasn’t right. I suspected as much, being that my dealer has their hands in every manufacturer except Honda and Suzuki. They also didn’t have the front plastic right, and had it’s mounting tabs on the out-most position, when it’s supposed to be sandwiched between the back cover and the inner metal mounts.

It was obvious to me that the cut outs in the headlight plastics, were for the cable to route through. I haven’t tested everything out just yet, but I’m feeling pretty safe with everything except for the throttle cable, being routed through there.

How are the rest dealing with it, and how are yours routed?

In the first picture, you can see how they how they just zip-tied everything to the outside of the headlight on the left… I re-routed everything on the right through the plastics…

Engine brake fail

2011 550. Has 7300 miles on it. Started to notice lately that the engine braking works fine at high speeds but as it slows down it is like the clutch disengaged and goes into a neutral. Not sure if this is a belt issue, clutch issue, one way bearing, etc…any experience? I am still running the original belt and have zero slipping issue. If I tap the throttle, the clutch reengages and works like normal. Not overly concerned but want to nip it before it becomes a problem!

Questions about cv joint

I removed my rear diff to reseal and replace the bearings. While trying to remove the left axle I ended up pulling the outer cv joint apart. Can I put this back together or is the joint shot? I didn’t use that much force so I can’t imagine I broke anything but I can’t get it to go back into place. I haven’t removed the boot yet.

BTW, I had a hard time getting the axles out. I ended up using a flat screw driver and a hammer and just beat on the metal shroud on the axle that is up against the diff until it came out. It bent it up pretty good but that was the only way I could get it.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Best oil filter for 2014 grizz 700?

I know this has been asked before, so I apologize. I recently bought a 2014 700 and need to do the oil and filter after break in. The previous owner ran the stock oil and filter and changed it out with motorex oil and new filter at 10 hours. I’m now at 33 hours and want to change it out again. I read that the oem yamaha filter is now made in Thailand and is not great quality. I’m thinking of running the purolator pure 1 PL 14610 or a Napa gold wix filter. Can you confirm if the previous filters work for the 2014 grizz? Also, I’ve got some Chevron delo 5w40 synthetic that I plan on using for this change. It doesn’t show the jaso rating but is a non energy conserving oil. I’ll run rotella t6 after that. So far I’m loving this new quad after coming from a Honda rubicon. Thanks in advance for the help.

2004 660 running poorly

Hey guys,
I have a 2004 grizzly 660. The four wheeler is all stock. I’m having a few issues with it. first issue I’m having is it is running poorly, it will idle fine and full throttle is fine but when you get into 1/4 to 1/2 throttle it starts to pop out of the exhaust. I took the carb apart twice and cleaned all the jets twice and added a inline fuel filter just in-case there is something in the tank. I replaced the spark plug and the plug cap and still no improvement. So i figured I would adjust the valves. Intakes were really tight and the exhaust were not to bad. still no improvement and now my starter wont turn my engine over so I checked my valve clearances again and they are all correct. Intakes are set at .10mm and exhaust is set at .15mm. I got the motor to start after i adjusted them i had to pull it over by hand because my starter solenoid failed right after i tried to start it. So i tried to jump the starter and it still wont turn the engine over.

Is it possible my starter was weak and with the intake valves being so tight it was giving it some compression relief??

And as far as the popping is it possible that my air/fuel screw is not set correct?

any advice will be greatly appreciated thanks for reading.
