Winch and Busbar Wiring Help…

I have a new 2016 900 EPS Trail and I’m installing a MotoAlliance Viper Elite Winch. I have the winch installed and just need to wire it properly…I’m confused!

The blue/yellow cables are much longer than I need to connect the winch to the contactor block as intended. The red/black cables aren’t long enough to go from the battery to the contactor block and furthermore the ring terminal connectors on the cables aren’t large enough to fit the bolts on the battery terminal connectors (blue/yellow cable connectors aren’t large enough either if I decide to swap with red/black).

Since I have everything apart, I thought I’d wire the Accessory Busbar on the firewall as well. So here are some of my questions…any suggestions would be much appreciated!

1) If I run 4ga wire from battery positive to busbar positive, do I need to fuse it? I believe the Polaris busbar harness (included with their winch) is not fused. If fusing is recommend, can you recommend a specific product and amperage?

2) Can I just run a wire from the busbar gnd to the frame or do I need to run a gnd wire from the battery to the busbar?

3) Apparently, the Polaris winch kit includes a harness that runs power from the battery to the busbar, and then powers the winch from the busbar. I’ve read posts on the forum that say don’t do this, use cables directly from the battery to the winch contactor block (and again, the included battery cables for the Viper aren’t fused). If the wire gauge running from the battery to the busbar is adequate, and fused, is it ok to run power from the busbar to the Viper contactor block?

4) The only fuse I see for the Viper Elite Winch kit is on the wireless receiver harness, not on the wired rocker dash switch or battery cable. Is this adequate?

5) If the consensus is to wire the winch power directly from the battery to the contactor (as per the Viper install instructions), should I fuse it somehow since that does not appear to be included in the Viper kit?

6) Anyone want to build me some custom cables with the proper gauge, fuses, and connectors? 🙂

Thanks,

Bob

6 Speed Manual RZR?

All this talk about the Manual transmission Being a game changer Who thinks we will see 2017 RZR XPT 6 speed???

Look at the Past…

Canam came out with the 1000 and Polaris followed

Canam came out with factory turbo and Polaris followed

Yamaha came out with manual transmission and Polaris???

I would Put money on it. Sure Polaris has been working on this already:ride:

Found a great new GPS app!

I was searching around online for a map to one of the more famous trails in my area and stumbled across a site called wikiloc that had a bunch of great maps in my area.

Turns out they have a mobile app as well. Turn the app on and it does all the standard gps tracking stuff you would expect – available offline maps, add waypoints, takes photos and positions them on the map, etc. then when you’re done your wheeling trip, you can upload your map and it becomes available to the wikiloc community. You can also tag friends, share maps publicly or privately, etc.

Anyways, great app that a couple of buddies and I have started using religiously when we wheel now. Super easy to share your favorite trails with your buddies. Definitely worth checking out!

Oh and it’s free to download. You only have to pay if you want to track other people’s maps. And the charge was only $5.79/yr

Cheers!

SSV Works Dilemma

Tell me what will sound better in a 2 seater. The SSV Works overhead with 2 speaker add-on with under dash sub or the 5 speaker Ground Pounder that SSV offers? Both have the same amount of speakers, both are comparable in price, ground pounder has larger amp, etc… With the ground pounder I would opt for rear speakers to be mounted on rear cage, not in the bed.

Again, looking for best sound & quality…I know both are going to be loud.

Happy Labor Day fellows!
