So just got into the rzr ball game this summer and have been starting to wire some things up, my rzr is a 2015 900 S. Just ran 8 awg wire from the positive on the battery to the block under the hood, and a 4 awg from the frame to the ground block.
i installed a viper 4500 winch and ordered a power switch for it so i can cut the power off to the winch if needed and also the typical dash mount in/out switch. I’ve installed car stereo amps and systems before so I know wiring basics but never dealt with relays, the instructions warn me to always run this switch through a relay but i’m not exactly sure why a relay is needed? can someone explain this to me? I’ve always just ran my power switches through the hot wire….
Also, does anyone know how many amps a 4500lb winch can kick out?
looks like you can purchase through Costco now. They are also giving out a cash card with purchase of a Polaris.
Anyone know what the discount is? I inquired but the dealer wants to sit down in person to go over the pricing…. Turbo’s are also included in this…

I’m about at the end of my rope. I have a rzr 900s and ever since the muffler cracked on it a couple months ago I’ve had nothing but problems. I originally just had the crack welded then it started backfiring and you could only give it so much gas. It only does it after you ride it for a while. I have had it at the Polaris dealership nearby twice now. The first time they reflashed my ecu and said that was the problem. This time they but a different muffler on it, but it’s still doing it. They said they’ve sent three reports to Polaris and find nothing wrong? I don’t really know what to do at this point.

I received a US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) postcard about "an improperly routed fuel tank vent line which may cause the vent line to become plugged, kinked, or pinched." The Polaris dealer has been authorized to inspect the fuel tank vent system and correct the problem at no cost to us.
I went to where I purchased my 2015 XP4 1000, and the service manager says they are aware of the problem. I personally don’t trust mechanics, so I asked if he could make a copy of the TSB, or show me what the problem is and how to fix. He said company policy won’t let him, I would have to make an appointment and drive my RZR there and back. My RZR worked fine last season, so I don’t think I have that problem, but was wondering if anyone out there has a copy of the TSB or pics on the problem and how to fix.
BIG change in Michigan for ORV, SXS about making them road legal…
Did you read about the SOS law change about making ORV or side by sides road legal? In the great lake trail rider monthly magazine they say in the attached tif file (201510274739818.tif) that ORV, ie ATV and SXS and dune buggies can no longer be made road legal but they say that dirt bikes can still be made road legal if they follow the TR-54 inspection form. But then on the attached SOS law (SOS-LAW.jpg) it says that to be considered an assembled vehicle you can build a dune buggie or sand rail and it can be considered an assembled vehicle and then be road legal. This law and the GLTR article seem to conerdict each other. Also because they grandfathered in all SXS that are already road legal my RZR is worth a lot more as it IS road legal and can be sold and the road legal status goes to the new owner. The new law also opens the door to custom frame builders that make a frame that all the SXS components to fit the custom frame and then it meet the requirement to be considered an assemble vehicle that can be made road legal…guess there is always a way around this law…
See the attached JPEGS showing the official Michigan SOS Law and also the Great Lake Trail Rider (GLTR) magazine article about the change.
This changes everything for SXS in the state of Michigan as we have ORV/Single track trails (dirt bikes only) Road legal only trails, Snowmobile trails, two-track trails, federal forest two-track trails, state forest two-track trail, county roads and Michigan state roads. With this law change SXS wider than 50" ie RZR 800 standard models are just about outlawed to ride in Michigan as the RZR-S model at 60", RZR 900 at 64", RZR 1000 at 64", Can-Am Maverick at 64" and just about all other SXS wider than 50" will be considered to breaking the law if they ride on federal forest roads, state forest roads and marked snowmobile trails as only road legal vehicle can ride on those trails or roads. Even though ORV are allowed on some county roads and road shoulders this law greatly reduces where SXS can legally ride, but if you have a road legal machine then you can ride just about anywhere you please, which is the whole reason that most SXS riders went through the process of making their SXS road legal, mind you it is a very expensive process to meet the requirement of TR-54 in the state of Michigan…
So this is a heads up to all Michigan SXS riders
Why do I keep seeing horizontal tow shackles and not vertical? Most times I am unable to tow directly in line so would it not make more since to get a shackle that swings sideways?
What do you guys use with no issues?
