800 Rebuild Questions..

Howdy. I do not post much on here. But I now have some questions.

I am in the processes of rebuilding my 800 outlanders engine. Why?? It lost oil pressure so I tore it down to see why. Turns my timing chains were breaking links. They also were so stretched that the adjusters were all the way out and they still could not keep the chains tight. They chains ate the guides (literally!!).. There was pieces all over in the crank case. The reason for oil pressure loss was… In the crank case they have a screen that filters any big chunks out of the oil before going to the oil pump.. That screen was plugged almost tight!! Problem found… When I was in there I found that the front piston was slapping the cylinder and there was pitting on the cylinder wall. Time for a rebuild.

Now on to the questions. Instead of going with 11.5:1 comp piston which would be perfect for what I am doing. Would there be any benefit to going with a 12.5:1 or 13:1 then shimming the jug to bring the comp back down to where i need it? would this gain me any extra Power? The reason i ask is would I gain any cc from it? Or would I be right back to where I would be cc wise if I would have gone with the 11.5:1 piston?? My mind says it would be right back to the same.. Is that right?? It would be nice if it did gain some cc along with it..

I might have other questions as I go.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Shock Covers

I bought the brp shock covers for my outlander and after a couple of rides one of them ripped. Soon after another one ripped. Does anyone know of a good shock cover for stock outlander shocks?

Should I buy?

I have the opportunity to buy my first ATV. I will be using it mainly to plow snow in the winter, hoping to make my money back in a couple years. I am wondering if I should buy this atv or not. Its a outlander 650 xt with heated handgrips, warn winch, power steering, fuel injection, good tires, and a moose snow plow. It has 146 hours and 760 miles. there a couple of flaws. It has a small hole in the seat, missing part of the bumper, and a crack in the left front wheel fender. The pricetag on this is $5,000. This price is significantly under blue book but im worried because its somewhat beat up and the previous owner has never washed it. Should I pass up this good deal because the previous owner didnt take care of it very well?

2013 800 max xt

How much do you think a 2013 800 MAX XT with 90 hours is worth? All stock with the BRP three soft bag storage option, 10 hour service done at dealer, greased twice and not even a scratch on it. I understand it varies from region to region, I’m in Colorado…Kelley BB had it at $8400. I paid $13500.

Slime, plug or patch?

Just discovered TWO nails punctured my tire Sunday! Not really sure about putting two plugs that close together, I could take it off and have it patched or try another bottle of slime! I’ve never had much luck with sealant but these are so small and right in the middle if the tread pattern it seems like the easiest fixes at this point. :th_smiliepissed: Wish I knew the joker who did this!
