2004 Sportsman 700 Hard to start, takes full choke and then 3/4 choke to keep it running. Idles at 1750, backfires upon deceleration when hot and will run well after acceleration begins but runs rough until 5 MPH. I removed plugs, L one was wet with gas. This ATV has 50 hrs and actually belonged to a little old lady who drove it to a mailbox and got too old to get on it. Someone, did not care for it and it had mud in the aircleaner box, and signs of being run through soupy mud everywhere, never had oil or aircleaner changed.Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Starting issues

My family and friends are up on an ATV trip and one of the guys is driving a 2007 Sportsman 800. He stopped to help me with an issue and when he tried to start it, it wouldn’t turn on.
The digital screen turns on, but it won’t actually start. We tested the solenoid the starter and the battery, they both seem to be working just fine. We would like to try and fix the issue today so that he can ride his machine. If anyone has any suggestions, please let us know!

04 sportsman 500HO question
I have a 04 sportsman 500HO that lost compression! I tore into it and found the wrist pin had seized in the connecting rod and piston. I got the piston cut off and finally broke free the wrist pin. However it left a few small burs in the connecting rod! Can I smith them out or do I need to get a new crank? If I have to get a new crank where do you buy them from? I can’t find them anywhere on the net! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

My last ride the battery light came on as well as the needle started flashing when headlights were on and the fan was on. I went ahead and replaced the battery with a NAPA Legend AGM battery, and now I just want to make sure all is good. Next month my son and I are going to trail fest and I don’t want any problems if I can avoid them. Thanks in advance…
Carb issue?
I have a 2002 polaris sportsman 500 ho. today i discovered that it wasnt idleing, i ziptied the throttle cable tight and it idles good now, rode it about 30 minutes and it was fine. Just tried to ride it again and about 300 yards it started sputtering at half to full throttle. I know i need a new throttle cable but maybe a carb issue? Also battery drains slowly but the fourwheeler is charging like its suppose to.
Crank rebuild
Hello. Woundering if it’s possible to rebuild my crank on my 2012 Polaris sportsman 800 efi. Some people say I can, and some say I can’t , I need to put new rods on cause one of them bent. Any help would be appreciated thanks
Backfiring after layup
2001 Sportsman 500HO
I only use my ATV a couple of times a year. Once in May and once in late August to get to and from our fishing/hunting camp, 80 miles round trip, 6 hours ride time. The ATV sits in the garage for several months between rides. When we start the trip I’ll be doing 35-40mph and after a few minutes it’ll lose power, backfire several times and then die. Restarts fine. Same scenario once or twice after that and then all becomes normal. The rest of the ride is without incident. The ATV sits in the woods for a week and on the return trip it runs like new. This has happened on three occasions since I installed a carb kit. Only other thing worth mentioning is that it needs to warm up a couple of minutes before it’ll rev up with the throttle. I don’t really like the backfiring nonsense. Sparkplug color is normal.
Anyone have an idea as to what can be causing this.

Primary clutch squeal
I’m having some creeping issues when my Sportsman 450 warms up. When it’s cold it don’t creep and when I rev it up I can hear a squeal when the clutch disengages…the squeal is similar to the wine it makes when it coasts down hill and the clutch is not engaged. Now the squealing goes away when it’s warm and creeps….any ideas?
