Hey all,
New guy here. First post.
I hope this isn’t too redundant. I just read another thread about someone wanting to purchase either the Sportsman 570SP vs 850SP. I hope I don’t cause any more strife and brutality.
Anyways, I was looking at both the 2015 and 2016 570SP. They are trying to close out the 2015’s, so they have incentives to buy them (Although one of the incentives is 3.9% financing, which, as it turns out, I probably won’t need).
For the sake of comparison, the bare bones price on the 2015 is about 1k less than the 2016. (I will add bumpers, racks, 3500lb winch and plow to either one)
What I wanted to know from you guys….(that is before I read the other post, but I will get to that), is whether or not the 2016 was worth an additional $800, and if the "upgrades" for the newer model year would benefit me. (Softer rear suspension is supposed to be one of the improvements for 2016)
After reading one of the other posts, I am thinking that I should be considering the 850 instead. I’m 6’2", about 250. I am pretty much just a cross country rider, but one of the main things that I like to do is to drive over stuff…slowly…but I need a bit of torque to get my lard ass up some of the steeper hills and rocks.
I have owned a Honda Rancher, and a Yamaha Wolverine (mostly my kids rode this one) in the past. Both of these were good machines, but not well suited to what I needed.
I liked the looks of the Polaris 570 SP…and since it has a low range and awesome ground clearance, I figured that it would probably work rather well for me. I actually had envisioned something in the 650/700 range before I walked into the dealer’s and found out that it didn’t exist in the Polaris lineup.
I’m not bent on Polaris either, but there are a couple things that I do like about that brand. They have higher ground clearance than alot of others…certainly the Honda. I really liked the automotive style paint as opposed to colored plastic, and the price seems good. 14" aluminum wheels stock on that machine helped with the bad ass look. My boss has an older Polaris, and I have ridden it a few times although I didn’t like it as much as my Honda (EFI, IRS, and I DID like having gears as opposed to the Variable Speed Transmission), he tells me that his machine has been trouble free.
Because I wasn’t confused enough, I went to look at Can Ams the other day. These machines also had the ground clearance, and aluminum wheels. The salesman was pushing me into a 2up, and I think I like them, but I don’t like being pushed…so I had to back off a bit.
So I want to know what you guys think. Right now I seem to be all over the map. I wasn’t even planning on buying one until spring, but I thought that coming into winter there may be deals to be had.
Well, it has stopped raining here for the moment. I’m headed to the dealers’ to look a little more closely at the 850’s.
Sorry for the long post. Thanks in advance!
