I am going to buy a new rancher in the next week or 2 for ice fishing here in Michigan. I will need 4 wheel drive and want an automatic and it looks like the IRS independent rear suspension has a little more ground clearance. Can anyone confirm this and is the IRS worth the extra money.
A blue ’12 850 XP came up semi-locally. Figured I would look into a few things on here before going to see it. There is only one photo of it. From what I can see the springs are white and the muffler is surface rusted. I’ve obviously requested more info.
It has 210hrs 1609 miles. Comes with new tires ( unspecified size/type ), winch ( unsure of lbs ), front & rear bumper guards, and front storage box.
They are asking $6,000. North PA area. How does this all sound? Besides a maintenance history I will want to look in the air box for oil. Any recommendations on what else to watch out for?

I’m looking at this model. Never owned an ATV or utility vehicle before. I’ve looked at other brands but polaris seems better to me. Any pros and cons? Looking for something I can work and play with.

So I’ve put a lot of work into my 350 2001 rancher. I like it but I’m just over 40 and it just to damn rough on the trails. Yes I have big tires but still. I want the best of both worlds.
So I was riding with a guy With a Polaris 570 sportsman. I think I fell in love with these bikes. The storage , the retractable one up seat, and it rides smooth as hell.
I know a new rancher would be a ton more comfortable too but Polaris has those creature comforts that Honda doesn’t seem interested in. Prices are comparable for new ones of each.
So….. Polaris ?? I’d love to hear some comments!!
