Hey all, my father is looking at buying a Rancher 420 for hunting, fishing, and trail riding. He’s not too concerned about top speed speed, as long as he can do 45-50 miles per hour when he hits the smooth fire roads, he’s happy.
He’s mainly concerned about low end power and reliability. His current quad is a straight axle Suzuki Vinson, and it’s starting to get a little tired. Before that he owned a Fourtrax 250, and was very impressed with the durability and quality of it. He also liked the Vinson, but he’s looking for something with IRS to be more comfortable on longer trips.
He will ride occasionally with a passenger, but their combined weight won’t exceed 300 pounds and he’s very cautious in rough terrain. We’ve rode 2 up on the Vinson for years, and never had an issue by just using common sense and reducing speed and using caution in rough areas. I’m not asking if Honda recommends riding 2 up, I know they don’t, but for those of you with Ranchers, as long as you take it easy and the passenger is small and light, would it be OK on a Rancher? He doesn’t want the added complexity and maintenance of a Can-Am or Arctic Cat 2 Up, and he refuses to even consider Polaris, not that I blame him. He wants something that doesn’t require a whole lot of intensive maintenance and he holds Honda in high regard. Would he be making the right choice with a Rancher?
Hello all. Look forward to some responses.
I have been riding snowmobiles for years and can ride them right out of my backyard into a forest preserve that has a good amount of trails. The problem with this is the snow. I’m in Chicago and its hit and miss.
I’m looking for 4×4, I’d like one powerful enough to plow as well (when there is snow I rent out the house next door so it would be nice to be able to take care of both drives)
I’m not one that’s terribly interested in going fast but I want it powerful enough to get through tough situations and do some decent hills etc. I’m flirting with the idea of getting a new one because of the reliability and I feel it’s something i can then enjoy forever. I’ve had my share of $1500 snowmobiles and i want something I can trust and enjoy for a long time.
Hi All; This is my first post here and wish it was a different subject. I just received my new Rancher from the dealer. The paper work shows 1 mile on the odo. The actual mileage is 25.7 miles and 8.4 hours. I called the sales guy and asked why the mileage was not right. Was this a demo and what happened. He was very defensive and said it was not a demo but was mileage put on it from taking it in and out each day. He mentioned what would make me happy and tried to play it down. My question is what would you do? I don’t like being over bearing and making a mountain out of a mole hill, but it is just not right. Thanks for any help!
Wassup everybody… I just wanted to get anyone’s advice or info over atvs… I’m looking for something fast powerful with torque… I’m really leaning towards getting a Honda 400ex… I also heard that kfx 400, Yamaha raptor, and ltz 400 are good as well… I just want something that’s going to be fast and that’s going to last… Also how much do you guys think I can find a good one for and what is the best one to get… Thanks

I’m looking at a 2011 Rancher 4×4 (TRX420FPA). I have read that the auto transmissions often have issues but this model has auto/manual option. Should I be concerned about this ATV having tranny issues? This will be my first ATV and I want to be sure it’s going to last without having frequent trips to the shop. I greatly appreciate any input.
The ATV has 50 hours (113 miles) and the man is asking for 5k. Is it worth it or should I go for a brand new ride?
Just thought I’d let any of you in the Southwest know that I recently purchased a 2016 Honda Rancher 420 4×4 DCT EPS (TRX420FA2) brand new from Western Honda in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Here’s what you may find interesting, I have a local Honda dealer here in my hometown. I test rode a 2016 TRX420FA2 here at the local dealer and fell in love, realized it was just what I was looking for. I told the salesman I didn’t want to haggle price, and I asked him to go back and talk to his people and come back to me with is best "out-the-door" price. He came back with his price and I said it was too high, I just couldn’t afford it.
But I didn’t gave up, I started searching other Honda dealers in the state, and I found two dealers in the valley of the sun who were going to sell me the same machine for $1000 less than my local deal out-the-door.
Apache Honda of Mesa and Western Honda of Scottsdale were the players. I told them both I had a target price, and Western called me back saying they would meet my target price. Looking back at the prices (out the door), Western Honda of Scottsdale beat my local dealer by nearly $1200!! So I went and bought it on December 5th of this year, 2015.
I don’t work for Western Honda, but point is, they have my loyalty because they cut me an awesome deal compared to all other AZ Honda Dealers on a still-in-the-crate 2016 loaded Rancher 420. They even let me be the first person (per my request) to put fuel in it, hook up the battery, and start if for the first time.
Looking to buy another ride, don’t mind with different brand than Polaris , but here I found a diesel… little old , but it’s a diesel / what you guy think about that buy ? what can go bad that I’ll regret that purchase . ?
