First post. New to the ATV idea. I bought a used 2012 Honda Rancher. We have been running around the frozen lake with it and every time we let off the gas it just quits and has to be restarted. It is a manual shift model with EFI.
Any ideas or starting points????
We have also noticed it backfires a lot. Could it be the Idle Control Valve?????
Thanks
Sorry about the double post. Not sure how the "!" point became the title. Trying to do too many things at one time….

This weekend after reading many reviews and watching all the videos I was going down the path of perching a 2015 Can Am Outlander L 500. However the dealers chose to jerk me around, and I settled on a 2016 Forman Rubicon 500 deluxe FA7 white. Just 1 hour on the unit and two days in my shed I notice a clunking noise going into low range. So I took the ATV back to the dealer this morning to correct the issue. Now I have been informed that the transmission requires disassembly to inspect cause of binding issue. So now I wait and I’m at the mercy of the mechanic’s to return MY QUAD. So tell me again how Hondas are the most dependable, Honda took a hit in my book.

it’s finally cold here in western New York and was considering adding dry gas to fuel tank . I always use non – ethanol ( octane 93 ) and generally keep tank full . Does it hurt anything or is not necessary at all ?

I have a 2012 Sportsman X2 550 that I bought last fall with 236 miles. When driving at slower speeds (going straight or turning) I’m getting a squealing noise. Not real loud but it’s really annoying. At faster speeds it doesn’t make the noise.
Having had snowmobiles for years it sounds like a snowmobile secondary clutch rubbing on a belt. My question is this: is this something I can get to and correct the problem or should I just drop it off at a dealer. This is my first Polaris of any kind and I don’t have much knowledge about quads in general.
