Carb cleaning sticky Is great!!
carb was causing backfiring and fluttering–could not get engine to quit even with pilot screw bottomed in. Sticky says if it does this your carb is still dirty clean it again LOL so i did.
Also found loose manifold bolt but this old Fourtrax is enjoyin a new life now!
Now to change oil in gear boxes . . .
First Can Am purchase!
After weeks of research I just bought my first Can Am, an Outlander L LE 570. I use to race motorcross for years in the past and sold my last race quad about 2 years ago. Very excited to own another quad and to be apart of the Can Am community. It was pretty much an easy decision for me, only thing that wasnt superior was the finance options so i ended up getting me own. live on the VA/NC boarder….mostly just ride in WV. Looking forward to breaking her in! Thanks for reading!

Torque specs on axle nut for 2013 Sportsman 500 HELP!!
So I am replacing my rear brake rotor on my 2013 sportsman 500 and need to know the torque specs for the castle nut on the rear axle. A lot of places I’ve read say 80 ft/lbs but then some say with the new AWD systems it only needs to be 108 INCH pounds. I was able to get the castle nut off with just a pair of crescent pliers real easily so it’s making me think it was the 108 inch pounds. Can anybody help me out with this!? Thank you.
rubicon hondamatic rebuild
I am a retired Tool and die maker with a small hobby machine shop in my barn. I own a Rubicon and Rincon.
I just rebuilt a hondamatic from 2001 ruby with 2800 miles and 400 hours. bearing in motor side swivel swash plate went out.
(Almost always the problem, if you catch it before too much damage it is fixable, Honda put a bearing with a plastic cage in the motor side swivel swash plate??? if it was a metal cage bearing the hondamatic would still be running strong) a 85 mm x 49 mm x 19 mm angular bearing made only for Honda, can not buy it… a 7209b angular bearing 85 x 45 x 19 does work, make sure it has a metal cage not a cheap one with a plastic cage. must turn down swash plate swivel insert from 49 mm to 45 mm id of bearing. cleaned unit good and check all bearings.( make sure to clean all crap out of the whole unit and the other bearings) saved over a $1000 on a new one. they can be fixed!!!
plastic cage breaks and bearing fails, clogs the screen in oil tank and bottom of engine, causing low oil pressure and hondamatic failure from low lube and excessive heat. If you change oil and it has lots of crap including metal in the oil the hondamatic motor side swivel swash plate bearing is toast. STOP DRIVING IT!!! You will most likely have to replace both oil screens, the tank and bottom of engine screens. Make sure to check oil pump for damage, best bet is to put a new one in engine.
If you take hondamatic apart be careful with the two rows of small pins with c-clips, they tend to fall out, bearings are tight but they are not pressed in. The swivel swash plate bearing is tight with almost no lip to knock out, so be carful getting it out, i grind a couple of small grooves in old bearing race and use an air chisel to burp it out. It will also remove outside bearing. (make sure to remove the c-clip holding the bearing…) to bad it is so much work to get the hondamatic out. Wish they had designed it to come out by just pulling the front engine cover off and not having to split the case…………
Willing to machine and fit bearing if anybody wants to fix their hondamatic.
swivel swash plate center is hardened steel but turns down easy on a lathe using ceramic inserts, Honda are good machines..
I just find it hard to believe they put a bearing with a plastic cage in the hondamatic…….7209b bearings with a metal cage are about $60. UPDATE just ordered some from Locate Ball Bearings, KOYO 7209b bearings with metal cage for $45 each. DO NOT USE ONE WITHOUT A METAL CAGE. The one i fixed was caught right away and had no other damage to hondamatic or the rest of the engine, oil pump looked okay but put a new updated one and new pump chain in anyway.
Also if front bearing on hondamatic seems a little sloppy, that is how they are. They all seem to be that way even the new units.

Overheating- FAN WORKS??
2000 Sportsman 400 – STOCK
Engine over heating in slow normal conditions.
Fan was not working so I removed rad, cleaned it
New coolant
Hard wired an new fan in, Fan comes on as soon as the key is on.
Took it for a drive and it overheated again.
What am I missing? Water pump? What is best way to check that without removing it, I know that is a pain…. 🙁

2007 Honda FourTrax Rancher 420 Clicking.
For the longest time my 2007 Honda FourTrax Rancher 420 TRX420FM would backfire and shut off when. Turns out it was the fuel filter. After replacing the filter when i turned the key on the 2 red lights would flicker. When i tried to start it the battery was low so i charged it overnight. This morning i went out and turned the key on the 2 red light still flickered and the clicking noise was still there. When i pushed the started button it would turn over and the lights would would stay red. After letting off the starter button the red lights would flicker and the clicking noise came back. I took the battery out and hooked it up outside the battery box. I turned on the key and the same thing happened. The clicking noise was somewhere behind where the battery box is. I moved a couple of wires to get a better view of where the noise was coming from. When i did the 2 red lights went out and the clicking noise stopped however the engine turn over. i used a screwdriver to jump the cyclonoid and the engine would turn over. Im pretty something else is wrong and not the cyclonoid. I ordered one just in case. Any other ideas on what might be wrong?
