New Owner Grizzly 600

Hi all;
I’m a new member here, just bought a 1998 Grizzly 600. It needs some TLC and I’m up for the challenge. I primarily need it for farm work – riding in the fields checking fencelines and hauling a trailer with firewood and chainsaws, etc. Its a one owner machine – it was owned by my late SO’s father, so now is my time to get it fixed up.
I’m interested in learning about the whole machine, and I plan on adding a new skin on it and some other items to make it "girly" if there is such a thing. :icon_ goofy:
I look forward to reading all about my "new" Grizzly here on the forum!

What did I take off?

I feel like a dummy. I research stuff to find out how to do things and then I go and do something dumb and throw out everything I’ve learned in my reading, lol. I was changing the oil in the ETX today and I got lazy instead of crawling under and looking better I found a plug and thought I was in the right place. I took it out and very little of something came out. In the pic it’s allen screw right in the middle. Was this just some oil that had settled around this screw?

Trailer bed coating?

I picked up a new Triton AT88 trailer a few weeks ago. I debated long and hard about making an old trailer work for 2 machines and decided the old bolted together trailer would need too much time, effort and money to make it do what I needed.

So now I have a new aluminum trailer with a wood deck. It is supposed to be marine grade plywood, but i would like to cover it with something to protect the wood from stains and UV damage.

I was thinking about using the left over bed liner I used when I got my truck a few years ago. Would that be best or would simple stain or paint work better?

Any suggestions or experiences?

Coolant and pipes

Hi guys, I recently bought a 2006 yamaha grizzly 450. I have had a couple of problems with it.

First is that the coolant reservoir cap has come off and there is no coolant left. Does any one know where I can source a replacement cap in the uk and what coolant is best to use or if I can just use any coolant mixed with water?

Secondly when I was checking the coolant I came accross these two pipes that aren’t attached to anything as cam be seen in the images. Does any one know what these could be?

Also does any one have any helpful hints and tips regarding this atv?

I am really enjoying this atv and want to get it back to normal as soon as possible.

Thanks,
Joe

ATV shuts off in gear

Hey guys, went to back my 08 Sportsman 500 up the other day and had some problems. Engine started fine. Put it in reverse and a second after I gave it some gas it shut off. The engine and screen. But immediately the screen would turn on. This kept happening and I noticed the it only did it if I gave it gas. If it was in neutral or park it would stay on, but in drive or reverse with gas it shut off. The weird part is if i give it just a tiny bit of breaking i could get it to go.

I plan on taking it in real soon to get it fully serviced and ready for ice fishing season, but dont want to pay up the pipe if its something simple. A guy at work thinks i have a bag pre-filter. It isnt stored at my house so I havent gotten a chance to get over and look at that yet.

Im not much of a mechanic so I’d appreciate any help I could get.

Thanks guys!
