Mystery Big Bear 350 hi/lo

Hello Everyone, great forum.

I recently purchased a older Yamy quad for use around the farm. I bought it locally for under $1000.

It was listed as a 2001 BB 350 with Hi/lo. I later found out that is was an impossibility due do Yamy not making a BB 350 in 2001. The Hi/lo was confusing also since Yamy generally removed the dual range somewhere around 97.

I looked for the VIN in the places mentioned on this site but was unsuccessful in finding it. There is some scraping on the lower frame on the left side by the foot gear shifter that may have removed the number. There is a skid plate on the lower frame between the front tires that I have not removed that may be hiding the VIN.

The quad has had the stickers removed, and spray painted camo to better hide it in the bush at a hunting camp

Without the VIN or knowing for sure the year I am having a hard time ordering parts. The carb is leaking fuel out of the bowl drain/overflow and is in need of a rebuild with new needle and seat.

After researching online, I think this is a 2000 BB 350 special edition/professional. But online pats lookups do not list a 350 in 2000, and the 99 350 show square headlights.

I am hoping someone can identify this machine and provide me a model number. Or, guide me to find the VIN number so I can get the model number. Or provide me with a link to a parts lookup that lists the quad I have.

The facts:

The motor is stamped 348cc on the cylinder. It is a 350.

It has the close together round headlights. See pic of same style lights.

Under the spray paint the main body color is Blue. See pic of quad with same color.

It has a hi/lo/reverse shifter on the left side where the drivers knee would be.

This seems to be a mysterious combination with little information on the internet.

I appreciate any help given.

Thanks
T

MI riders

My usual riding buddy is taking a long vacation and I can’t really bring myself to stay of the trails that long. I went for a solo ride once but I rather ride with someone else just in case some help is needed, you just never know what can go wrong…

So, anyone heading to West Branch/ St. Helen area trails and willing to meet up for a day ride this weekend, let me know!

Honda 1986 TRX 350

Hey all, found a honda trx 350 in the scrap heap. It’s in rough shape! has the frame, fuel cell, engine and axles. I asked the guy what he wanted for it and he said $10. Was missing the timing tensioner and had massive amount of water/oil mixture. I filled flushed the motor and bought a timing tensioner off ebay. Fresh oil in, new filter and a quick run down of the engine. Everything looked great, put some fresh gas in the tank (fuel was orange, Yuck!) and pushed the kick start. Two kicks and the engine fired off. :icon_ banana:

Couldn’t believe it… The only issue is.. it smokes like a diesel rolling coal. Heavy amount of white smoke. I took the exhaust off and the exhaust port on the gear side was soaked in oil. The exhaust port on the brake side was clean with nice carbon.

What do I need for parts? I have yet to do a compression test but honestly I think it’s okay. I believe I’m looking at a leaking valve seal?

I still can’t believe it, only $10. Long live the honda!

2003 Honda Rincon Need Help

purchased a 2003 Honda Rincon from a couple that used it on there farm. They told me that it jumped timing. When I took it apart I seen that the timing chain guide arm had broke and the bike did jump timing. I replaced the guide rail, timing chain, oil pump chain, and seal on oil pump. Bike starts up and runs fine. The issue I am having is when I have it in Auto and throttle down on it, it boggs down. It doesn’t shift from first to second unless I ease of of the throttle, and same thing for third gear. It also takes a sec for it to shift into second. I have to get up to about 18mph before it shifts out of first into second. ESP works fine as far as shifting, but when I throttle down in ESP mode I cant get over 40mph? Its like the Rincon is bogging down when I give it a good bit of throttle. It should go over 40mph correct? I have a Rubicon and never had an issue like this. I am new to Rincons. Has anyone else had this problem with there Rincon?
