I’m trying to figure out how well the Defender XT HD10 would do as a trail ride vehicle. A few times a year it’d go on an all day trail ride (Wisconsin and/or Upper Michigan public trails).
Has anyone taken an 8 hour ride with one before? If so, how’d it do? Comfortable? Fast enough?
I currently have two atvs and I’m debating about trading one in on a new Outlander or going with the Defender.
My family does have some land so I like the idea of having a UTV for work, but I’d also want to use it on the trail.
And no, I don’t want a Commander. I prefer the bench seating.
Any help would be great. Thanks!
Oh and if anyone knows the top speed of an HD10 that’d be a bonus for sure. I want to make sure she’ll keep up (or at least not lag too far behind) 570’s Outlanders.

It has a Pull Rope but you would seemingly have to be the Incredible Hulk to start it that way. I have decent arm strength and can’t imagine getting it started like that…
Wife and I’s 3rd trip to Big Creek in Kellogg Idaho. Ventured out further this year. The trails are a blast and the ride was the best thus far. I could post 1000 pictures of the trip and it’ll be never compare to being there, so I’ll share just a few lol. On the top of the ridge, I really wish I had a drone. It would have helped capture the amazing scenery while we rode the top ridge. We’re going to plan another trip here soon with some friends this time and go again. The trails there seem to never end and it was awesome running into like minded people on the trail! My exhaust tip decided to come loose and melted a bunch of plastic, I also broke the mounts on my sound bar and my wife broke her right footwell plastic from hitting a branch on the ground. Gotta pay to play I guess haha. Enjoy!
When cold starting i always have to hit the starter button 2 times before it will start. First try it will fire then die. Second try always fires and runs. Any thoughts why this would be ? Thanks Don
I have a 2001 trail boss. It seems to run good until I am stuck or very hard initial acceleration. When the trans is loaded hard it sounds like to gears are grinding. I have not yet taken the trans out and opened it up. Any thoughts? I am assuming the forward gear inside the case is worn and jumps under hard load or the shift spindle (not sure exactly what it is called) is worn and slips allowing the gear and spindle to slip.
