99 Big Bear SE Transfer case oil leak

Hello,

I purchased a 99 Big bear SE locally at a discounted price.

I have been working away at the small issues it has to get it whipped back into shape.

This is the 348cc with high/low/reverse shifter.

I was ready to try and fire it up, checked the oil and it was not even registering on the dipstick. I put 2 quarts of oil in it to get it to register on the dipstick.

I assumed there was a leak somewhere and did find a slow drip that accumulated on the transfer case on the rear of the motor.

Is this the ol’ yoke nut/ rear oil seal issue that is widely documented? Or could there be another cause? I question the rear oil seal since the oil does not seem to be coming out of the boot that covers the drive shaft coming out of the transfer case. There also may be some damage and a bolt missing on the transfer case.

I have attached a few pictures. You can see the oil pooling a little under one of the bolt heads, I cleaned the area with a rag shortly before taking the pictures. I circled the bolt with the oil pooling on it, the possible missing bolt and and area that looks rough, but could possibly be from the casting process.

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks,
T

Cranks but no start

Hi everyone, New member here seeking some wisdom.

I got a 03′ sportsman 500 last year. It ran decent but sputtered every once in a while.

I took the carb off to clean it and noticed the intake boot had a 2"gash in it.
I Replaced the boot with a new one and I couldn’t get it to start.
Thinking I messed up the carb somehow, I bought a new one on ebay for $50. Still no start.

The carb fills up with fuel, and starting fluid doesn’t help.
Took the spark plugs out and grounded them, it looks like they have good spark.
There is lots of suction on the air intake.

I don’t know what to look at now. Any advice?

Hornet/moose rack extender. Pics?

Hey guys. New member here and new owner of a 2016 570. Looking for a rear rack extender and I really like the Hornet raised rack that Cabelas offers. Does anyone have a side pic of their 570 with this rack? I would like to see it from a distance and I cant find much online. I think the Moose rack is the same thing but much more expensive. I really like how the lower bar wraps all the way around unlike the Polaris one. Though I think the Polaris one looks nicer. Thanks.

Garmin Montana 680 GPS for Trail Riding at Hatfield McCoy

I just purchased a Garmin Montana 680 GPS on Craigslist to install on my 2007 Polaris Sportsman 500. I ordered the Garmin AMPS power cradle, Garmin anti-glare screen protector, and several RAM mounts from Amazon.

I plan to direct wire the GPS on the Sportsman 500. Based on several threads on this forum, there are several orange/white accessory wires specifically for this under the front cover or in the pod. So, the red wire from the Garmin AMPS power cradle would go to the orange/white strip accessory wire on the Sportsman 500, and the black wire from the Garmin AMPS power cradle would go to a ground terminal block on the Sportsman 500 (not sure where).

For maps, I purchased the vvmapping maps already and plan to install the vvmapping and BOBT maps on the GPS. Should I install a topographic map as well? If yes, which one?

Additionally, are there any special settings to configure on the Garmin Montana 680 for ATV trail riding? I welcome all feedback on this specific model.
