New to the forum. This past week I picked up a 2004 400ex pretty clean for the age. Guy said he ran it parked it and didn’t ride it for awhile so I figured clean the carb good to go. Turns out that was far from the problem. Today I realized the timing chain was way off and after readjusting realized it had bent intake valves. Since I have to pull the head to fix the valves I’m wanting to go all out bore kit and a cam it already has an exaughst. Any tips on where and what parts to buy? I’m a marine diesel mechanic so install won’t be a problem. What setups are y’all running? Id like more bottom end and maybe add some on top if possible.

Lug nut size
Have a 2012 Sportsman 500 HO. Is the lug nut size 3/8 x 24. What does the 24 stand for?
Good deal or not?
Hey guys, so a guy in my town is selling a 2012 sportsman 500 with 133hrs/1500 miles. He said it has a blown head gasket or cracked head. His kids were riding it and it overheated, so they parked it. He found a hole in radiator and the cylinder was full of water. He then drained it and has been sitting for 2 months. He is asking $1000 for it. I’m sure it will need at least a radiator and best case just a head gasket. Do you guys think it is a good deal to buy and try to fix??
Electrical problem. 2012 Outlaw 50
Hey guys. New to the forum. Very informative although I haven’t found my answer just yet. My 3 year old quad was intermittently starting and " horning" when the key was on….now it’s totally dead, although good battery. Tried starter (works) (hot wired horn and it works) very weird. Seems like the key ignition isn’t working or something else. I’ve cleaned all contractors, put new starter relay…..cdi works too. There’s a little black box on the left front with 2 connectors going into it. One 4 wires. One 2. Could that box be fried? Seems odd that the horn doesn’t even work…..any ideas?
Bighorn 2.0’s
So I can get a good deal on some bighorn 2.0’s. Has anyone gotten these tires and if so what did y’all think? And I’m sure this is all in another post somewhere but what about 12" or 14" rims?

Moving on from Moab to Montana
Drove out to Moab, been riding 4 weeks, thinking I will move on to Montana, anyone give me any suggestions where to go riding? Have to be home by the day after thanksgiving. Thinking I will go to Saskatchewan goose and duck hunting then to North Dakota Pheasant hunting. If I run out of time I will just have to come back.
Throttle response in 1/4 to 1/2 throttle band
Experts,
I have recently rebuilt an 05 rubi. I had to replace the carb as the old one was too far gone. I bought an OEM carb (not China crap). It will cold start very easy with choke and will idle very smooth once warm. If you start giving throttle it starts getting sluggish. I have noticed the vacuum piston in the carb bouncing when the throttle is between 1/4 to 1/2. Once it gets above about 1/2 you can feel the bike response and will take off and run very good. While in the 1/4 to 1/2 you can add some choke to smooth it out.

So I am assuming it is starving for fuel when 1/4 to 1/2 assuming it is from the bouncing vacuum piston not keeping the jet open. Is this by design? What else can I do to get this to respond in all throttle ranges?
Thanks,
Mike
