Few idaho pics from 187 miles 2 days

thought i’d share a few pics of the weekend. My brother from Nevada came up and rode a few trails ;). First day "Saturday was 7 of us rode 70 miles on the Danskin trails east of boise.. Was a great ride perfect riding conditions for hauling @$$, the day after a rain no dust and an occasional sprinkle throughout the day.

Sunday just my brother and I went for a high speed "117 mile" run from Dry Buck to sagehen through the left edge of high valley while also doing all the trail loops up at sagehen. Again perfect riding conditions.. poored rain the two days before. Hit a little bit of mud but for the most part we just had heavy sweaters on and the ground was perfect for a high speed trail run .. I had a small grizzly problem half way into the trip at about 60 miles away from the truck. I was drifting a corner when i had a 3 inch x 2 1/2 ft log some how find its way on the through the inside of my tire and into my engine compartment. It managed to snag my radiator hose and my 30-40 mph momentum and it folding backwards causing it to become a crowbar it popped my radiator hose straight off of the waterpump housing.

You can see the log in this pic and antifreeze still pooring out. I never knew how fast antifreeze could leave the charged system when its 210 degrees and the motor is pumping it out as fast as it can.. :(.. I guess I found that out that hard way…. I guess the grizzly just happen to hit a bear trap just perfect .. :icon_ goofy:

Took only about an hour and a half to then eat lunch stare in disbelief at what just happened then pull plastics find that it only popped off the hose instead of tearing through it which i’m very luck for. We happen to have enough bottles of water to fill up the grizz luckily with its 3 core radiator.. and then continue on to do the rest of the 117 mile trip .

Cant stress enough.. always bring tools with you when you ride.. you never know what could happen out there. 60 miles from the truck could be a 4-5 day hike back to the truck from where we were if i would have been alone.

More pics from that day.. after the on trail repairs to the grizz

Kerosene heaters

I just cleaned up an old Sunbeam kerosene heater I had sitting in my shed. I was thinking of using it to heat my single car garage while working on stuff during the winter months. I have had it running for an hour now and my CO monitor still shows 0.

Do any of you guys use this method to heat your garage? And if so are there any significant safety concerns in regards to CO? Does it heat your garage comfortably?

Cooling fan

The cooling fan on the back of my 800s radiator is noisy. I cant remember if i replaced this one or if it was the one on my 500 is one brand better than the other? I see the prices from $95-$195. And speaking of cooling systems is there a good way to clean/flush out the cooling system rather than just draining the a/f.

2001 Rubicon stuck in high gear.

Hey everyone, new member here and first post. I’m having problems with one of my rubicons. It was doing fine until the battery went bad and I was using the pull cord to start it. I replaced the battery and now it won’t shift out in auto or using the electric manual shift. I did a rest on it and heard the control motor run for only a second and make a clunking sound. I tried it again and only got the clunk sound, motor did not run. I pulled the control motor and the small gear on the inside was locked up. I used a small screw driver to get it free and put the control motor back on and did the reset. The motor ran again just a sec and locked the gear back up. I pulled the control motor out and did the reset while the motor was unbolted, it came on and went right back off. For some reason it’s not going through the run steps like it should. I’m sure it has codes on it but no way to read them since there is a blotch on the screen where the code would appear. Anyone have any ideas for me to try. Thanks

1988 Trailboss need help with a part number

Recently picked up a basket case 1988 Trailboss 250.

It was leaking case oil out the back of the crankcase. There is just a bolt straight missing… lol

Anyways it looks like its a check bolt, to check the fluid level, and I can’t seem to find anything close to it on schematics.

Anyone have idea which bolt I’m talking about?

Thanks guys!

Traxter Auxiliary/Handlebar Light –

I am trying to figure out how to set up an LED light bar on my 2001 Traxter and activate it when I press the hi-intensity switch on the handlebar. Since the headlamps on my unit become brighter simply by sending higher current to the headlamps, I don’t think it as simple as tying into the wires leading to the lamps. I know that I can install a separate switch, and may end up doing that, but I already seem to have too many switches as it is…winch, grip heaters, etc. However, I have learned the later models (2005 and others) have an auxiliary light on the front of the handlebar pod. As I understand, this light is only activated when the high intensity button is depressed. This is nearly the same setup that I’d like to achieve with the LED bar mounted on my front bumper extension. Can anyone help me understand how this factory auxiliary light is wired? I suspect I can copy that setup. A wiring diagram would be great!
