New GC in Alaska

Greetings y’all!

I’m new here to the forum, and to ATV riding in general. I rode three wheelers as a kid, and I’ve been on a few of my buddies’ machines over the past year. Made the decision to take the plunge and I purchased a 2016 EPS Camo Grizz last month. I spent a lot of time searching this forum (and others) before making the decision to go Yamaha. I appreciate all of the great info on the site, and I’m looking forward to the time I’ll get to spend with my Grizzly.

I live in south central Alaska near some pretty spectacular riding trails, and I intend to get a lot of use out of my new machine when plowing the drive/road, and heading out hunting. Love that the Grizzlies seem to be so reliable.

Anyhow, I hope to get to know you all on the forum.

Polaris Oil

Hi, I want to keep some spare oil in my quad incase I run low. I have some of this on hand. Is it OK to top up with this? Also, the nearest polaris dealer is 60 miles away is it possible to switch to the amsoil (or other synthetic) So I don’t need to keep going there?

Axle nuts keep coming loose?

So I took my wheels off to bleed my brakes and when i put my front one back on I noticed it had significant play in it (particularly the right side). Thought great the bear is out. Well I took it back off and pulled the cotter pin out and noticed the castle nut was loose. I just changed out this axle last week and torqued it down to 60ft lbs like it calls for. Well i tightened it back up, put in cotter pin and it was back to normal. Other side with stock axle was the same way though. Whats the deal with this and do y’all torque them down a little more to keep this from happening? Should i put a little blue loctite on them just to help it out?
