400EX and Raptor 700R tearing up the dunes, Thanksgiving 2016…VIDEO

Howdy friends. Last week my brother-in-law and I spent the day riding at our favorite spot, Little Sahara sand dunes in Utah. I rode his 2007 400EX most of the day and he rode his newly-acquired Yamaha Raptor 700R SE. We had a blast and both quads did awesome. I was impressed once again how hard this 400EX pulls and how well it keeps up with the 700R in general – until the climbs are steep/loose and 400+ feet tall. The 400EX has a K&N lid, K&N filter, Pro Circuit slip on exhaust, and professional jetting job.

’16 Rancher 420 now street legal – pizza delivery…

Howdy friends,

I live in rural northeastern AZ, and it’s easy here to get your quad street legalized. I finally got it done yesterday. The horn and mirror mounted up real nice…and actually work as they ought to. I took the Rancher (4×4 DCT EPS SRA) down main street today to pick up some Little Caesars for the family. Here’s a video of the journey – I even passed two county Sheriffs along the way!

’16 Rancher 420 valve adjustment before/after…

Hello friends. This weekend I took my 2016 Honda Rancher 420 4×4 DCT EPS over to Western Honda of Scottsdale in Arizona to have the 600-mile service package performed on the machine. I enjoy doing these services myself, but the price was right and I am trying to maintain my 5-year warranty the best I can. I am very impressed with the service department at Western. This is also the same place I bought the machine new December 5th of last year. 658 miles later the engine was noisy to me (valvetrain), and I can hear a noticeable difference after having the valves adjusted. The mechanic Tom who worked on my quad spoke with me, and told me that one of the valves was way out of spec. I could tell immediately upon inspection that they carefully went through the whole quad, even leaving it clean when they were finished. Josh, the service adviser was super helpful and nice to work with. I don’t work for these folks, but my experience with other Honda Powersports dealers left me very impressed with the guys/gals at Western. Here is a video of the engine sound before/after.

Climbing massive cinder hills on the Rancher 420…

Howdy friends. I’m posting a video with a few clips of some big hill climbs at the Cinder Hills OHV area in Arizona. It is such a cool place. Reminds me a lot of the massive sand dunes at Little Sahara in Utah. But the cinders are different in many ways than the sand. The Rancher did great, especially for being totally stock. I found again that big climbs are best accomplished in 4×4. Great place to camp and recreate with your OHV!

crazy steep downhill on my 2016 Rancher…video

Howdy friends,

Today I got out before the wife/kids woke up for a lovely summer morning 4th of July ride on our 2016 Rancher 420 4×4 DCT EPS. During my adventures I went down a hill so steep I had to use 4wd to throttle out the nose and keep it from going over forwards on me. And I did some other 2wd/4wd experimentation. 607 miles now on the new Rancher and still loving it. Happy riding everybody.

The Rancher 420 DCT EPS is kid-friendly…

Howdy OHV friends. I took my family to the Cinder Hills OHV area in Flagstaff AZ yesterday and we relaxed and rode our 2016 Rancher 420 4×4 DCT EPS for several hours. First of all, this area is awesome if you’ve never been there. Second, I realized once again how family-friendly the Rancher is. I ride it in ESP mode all over the area, climbing monster hills and having a blast. Then my wife hops on and explores around with a smile on her face in AUTO mode. Then my 6-year-old and 9-year-old can’t get enough of it. The power steering and automatic transmission, plus medium size of the Rancher make it fun for the whole family. I know the topic of how old/how large kids should ride can be controversial, but for those looking into the Rancher 420, I would say from personal experience that the 4×4 DCT EPS version is very kid-friendly. 6 month, 500-mile report (plus video) on my 2016 Honda Rancher 420 4×4 DCT EPS…

Hello friends,

In case anybody’s interested, I’ve posted an update video of my new Honda Rancher 420 4×4 DCT EPS. I’ve owned it now for 6 months, and I’ve put 500 miles on it. So far, I love it. The power steering was definitely worth the extra cash. The automatic transmission works great for when I put folks on there who don’t want to shift, or when I’m feeling lazy and cruising down a trail/road. The 4×4 works great. The suspension is good. The engine produces great power. It’s comfortable and reliable thus far. Here’s to another 500 miles!
