As many of you already know the XMR’s have an issue with melting of the plastic air box/seat/side panel etc. from excessive exhaust heat. The resulting air box hole allows water/dirt/etc. to enter the clean side of the air box and ultimately damage the engine. This happened to my 2016 XMR 1000R with only 112 miles on it. Luckily from knowledge gained on this forum, I was made aware of the issue, checked and caught it before any damage was done. I’m thankful others have shared important information on here to help the rest of us. I hope to accomplish the same, by sharing what I found and what I did to solve the issue on my XMR. To do so I will using my brothers 2016 XMR 1000R to show what I found works and how it was done.
I will be doing this in multiple posts to this thread, so bare with me as I type and add photos etc.
