I am replacing the timing chain on my wife’s ’07 Recon. I got a new chain from the local dealer. When I attempted to install it, I found that it was too narrow to fit on the gears. We double checked the part#, which was right. We also went a few years forward & backward to see if we could come up with a different part#, but the part# hadn’t changed. We also checked another chain from the dealers inventory, which was the same.
My old chain has 7 plates sandwiched between the rivets (not including the side plates) & measures .349" across the side plates.
The new chain only had 5 plates between the rivets (again, not including the side plates). I did not get a measurement before the dealer took it back.
I am hoping that the wrong part was put in the packages @ Honda. The parts guy said that it has happened, but it is very rare. Other than that, I’m stumped:unsure:.
Does anyone have any other ideas?
