I just installed a Superwinch LT3000 ATV winch on my 2007 Honda Rancher 4X4, 420 fm and then found an issue with how the cable came through the mounting bracket and fairlead.
The winch came from the factory spooled with cable coming from the bottom. The instructions with the winch says to mount winch like it is with feed coming from the bottom of spool (motor side of winch is on the left when facing front of Rancher). The mount that I am using is part number 100705 from KFI products which says that cable should be coming from over the top. They don’t say why but I assume it is because with the winch mounted with cable coming from bottom it creates a really sharp bend in order to line up through mounting bracket and fairlead.
So there were two different ways to correct this sharp bend and spool issue. 1) Leave winch mounted as it is but unwind all the cable off of winch and re-spool cable to pull off the top. 2) turn winch 180 degrees around on its mounting block (motor side of winch is now on the right side when facing the Rancher) and allow cable to pull over the top although technically the cable is still coming from underneath. Since their seems to be a lot of thoughts on the internet that believe that it doesn’t matter how the cable feeds off of a winch I wanted to generate some discussion before I tell you what Superwinch says to do.
Sorry this is so long…I drive my wife crazy when I tell a story! LoL
