Winch and Busbar Wiring Help…

I have a new 2016 900 EPS Trail and I’m installing a MotoAlliance Viper Elite Winch. I have the winch installed and just need to wire it properly…I’m confused!

The blue/yellow cables are much longer than I need to connect the winch to the contactor block as intended. The red/black cables aren’t long enough to go from the battery to the contactor block and furthermore the ring terminal connectors on the cables aren’t large enough to fit the bolts on the battery terminal connectors (blue/yellow cable connectors aren’t large enough either if I decide to swap with red/black).

Since I have everything apart, I thought I’d wire the Accessory Busbar on the firewall as well. So here are some of my questions…any suggestions would be much appreciated!

1) If I run 4ga wire from battery positive to busbar positive, do I need to fuse it? I believe the Polaris busbar harness (included with their winch) is not fused. If fusing is recommend, can you recommend a specific product and amperage?

2) Can I just run a wire from the busbar gnd to the frame or do I need to run a gnd wire from the battery to the busbar?

3) Apparently, the Polaris winch kit includes a harness that runs power from the battery to the busbar, and then powers the winch from the busbar. I’ve read posts on the forum that say don’t do this, use cables directly from the battery to the winch contactor block (and again, the included battery cables for the Viper aren’t fused). If the wire gauge running from the battery to the busbar is adequate, and fused, is it ok to run power from the busbar to the Viper contactor block?

4) The only fuse I see for the Viper Elite Winch kit is on the wireless receiver harness, not on the wired rocker dash switch or battery cable. Is this adequate?

5) If the consensus is to wire the winch power directly from the battery to the contactor (as per the Viper install instructions), should I fuse it somehow since that does not appear to be included in the Viper kit?

6) Anyone want to build me some custom cables with the proper gauge, fuses, and connectors? 🙂

Thanks,

Bob
