What I am looking for is recommendations based on my needs which I list below.
I have a Garmin Nuvii 40 and can get a Nexus 7 tablet, I also have a Samsung S6 phone I am not adverse to using any of these devices if they’ll do what I want. I would get waterproof cover but would want to mount it on the ATV with a mount that would allow for quick R&R.
1. I want a GPS that is reliable for ATV’ing.
2. Ease of use is paramount. I love GPS but have suffered through the learning curves of the original eTrex’s. Basically I don’t want days of pain to learn how to semi use a device, and there is nothing, no feature that will overcome that.
3. Must be under $400 and be able to handle most of the downloadable maps.
4. Save my butt! I have been in the situation where I was on unfamiliar trails and losing light with little idea where I was. I want a device that can eliminate situations like that by reliably tracking me back out or better yet, show alternative quicker routes.
5. In Hatfield & McCoy and other locations some of getting from point a to b is on paved roads, so a GPS that can show paved road directions is a must
