Where everone is measuring the width of there belt?

So I looked at the repair manual and the spec said the belt at the thread wear line if it is below 30mm then the belt needs replacing, so I did what I thought was what the book said, and the spot measured 30.35mm, with the overal width being 32.35mm (brp belt). So I went to the store and picked up a Gates Gforce belt. And that one overal measured 33mm, and what I think the book is telling me spots to measure the new belt came in right around 31, just does not seem right. So I wondered where exactly are most of you measuring the belt? I was doing this with a digital caliper.

I know when I measure my snowmobile belts it tells you to measure overal width, since these cvt systems are so close to the same concept would they not have the same measure points?
