What went wrong?

I have a 2003 Honda 350 rancher. I hardly ever ride it beyond 35-37 mph especially on the hardtop. Well I was traveling back home on the hwy. I ran it up to 40 for a short period. All of a sudden it made a real loud squeel from the front on the engine. Me I thought that it was an axle or wheel bearing going down. I let off the fuel trying to limp it home. Here is where the bug hits the windshield. The engine dropped power (no smoke from exhaust) and then it just died. The fluid levels where fine. It wouldn’t start back. It tries to crank but to no avail. I don’t know if a valve got stuck or it blew up. Please help! Thanks in advance.
