Water in gas?

Second time I have had this happen in 18 months. I don’t bury the quad in mud or water. Must of the time it is barely up to the floor boards, and typically when I am in pretty deep, it barely gets water in the clutch, let alone high enough to reach the gas tank breather hose…

I get home, I pressure wash it and make sure the cap is tight…

I never see any gas leaking from the quad.

But after many months I seem to get water in there. Starts running and idling funny, etc…

I took it to the dealer the first time, not knowing what it was, and they said almost 1/3 of the fuel in there, was water. I was like WTF?

So they drained it and all that and refilled it, etc…

I tend to not use old gas. I trailer it wherever I am going, and I full up both the truck and the quad at the same station, same pump… If I have gas left over in the 5 gallon race can, I typically throw it into the pressure washer or another vehicle, I don’t let it sit for more than a week or two…

Is this just because of crappy ethanol gas collecting water? Is there a way to be getting water in there when I wash it?

I just drained it, put in some HEET, added some of that ethanol additive, Star something, supposed to keep it from collecting water, and some fresh gas. There is a gas station down the street that sells ethanol-free 90 octane, so I will start using that…

Anything else to check or consider?

This has me perplexed and concerned… THe quad felt down on power the past couple rides, I wonder if this is why?
