I guess I got hooked. I bought a 1988 trx300fw and loved it. Then I found a 1990 trx300 that had a "broken cam chain". I got it for $200. I dont know how the shop thought the chain was broken. I pulled the cover off and the cam bearing was destroyed. I’ve ordered a used top end off ebay to replace it. The oil filter was in correctly and the oil looks pretty old.
Based off seeing the remains of a liquid gasket material, I’m assuming someone has been in the top end. The bearing near the cam gear was fine. Could they have over tightened the cam chain and thus the far bearing went out?
The other thing is I dont want to disassemble the engine to clean it. Can I just flush it a few times?
I checked the oil filter and didnt find tons of aluminum but it was present. I also filtered the oil from the crank case and only found two small "chunks".
Thanks in advance
