TRX 400 4×4 Losing Spark

We have a 99? TRX 400 4×4 that we use for spray duty in the spring and summer. It’s been largely trouble free until now.

The oil temp light has come on and off occasionally, even when the temp was below freezing. The fan always seemed to come on so I wasn’t that concerned about it, and the light seemed to stay off after using the bike for awhile.

It began stalling while hot, and wouldn’t restart until it cooled. I thought it was a fuel delivery issue, so I cleaned the carb and verified petcock flow. After I got it back together, it started and ran for 10 or 15 minutes, then stalled and wouldn’t start. Had plenty of fuel in the bowl. The oil light was not on during this period.

I checked for spark at that time and found none. I’ve been busy and it’s been sitting for a week, but today I flipped the key on, and the oil light lit up, and it has spark again.

I read somewhere that the temperature module can kill spark if the engine gets too hot, and that would make sense, since my module has been flaky for the past couple years.

Does anyone have any suggestions about how to proceed further, and how the temperature control system works on this bike?
