I have a 1997 Honda TRX300 2×4; I tore the engine down to replace the piston, rings and gaskets due to blow the sucker up racing. I got everything put together, oiled up and ready to roll. I turned to the key, and the engine attempted to turn over the first few times, then eventually I started hearing a clicking coming from the battery compartment. I inspected everything to make sure it was tight and tried again…still clicking. Long story short, I replaced the battery, solenoid, starter and wire harness, and I continued to hear clicking. A buddy of mine mentioned the timing could be off inside the motor with the cam and sprocket, so I tore it back down, got everything timed up, and put it back together. The moment of truth came, I turned the key, and…..click. The neutral light and oil temp lights are lit when I turn the key, but all I get is the clicking noise from the solenoid. Any ideas or thoughts? I’m at a loss as to how to fix this problem and get it rolling.
