think i overkilled new motor mount for jon boat

Redid the boat 4 yrs ago and gramps got a smokin deal on a 15hp long shaft for this short transom…kicked alot of water back into boat. So during the rebuild/remodel i bought 4 chunks of 3x3x1/4 aluminum angle, milled slots in all 4 pieces so i could have adjustiment up and down to fine tune outboards performance. Got 22mph out of it after alot of tweaking and tuning…just me and all the fishi g gear, slower with family in it. But for motor mount i used a chunk of lvl i slathered up with resin….4yrs of sitting i. Elements it is delaminating and last sunday finally got it back in water and i thought motor was gunna fall off i to river lol. So decided i will fix it once and for all.

Ordered this chunk of aluminum off ebay, 2 days later i got it this evening so set to cutting it to shape i needed and shave some weight off.

Used my trusty Bosche sidewinder skill saw with a marathon thin kerf 40t blade, safety glasses, ear plugs and got to cutting. I purposely left saw cut side up on chunks i removed and you can see it cut full depth thru 1 3/4" aluminum no problem and very cleanly.

Will set up drill press tomorrow to drill the 6 bolt holes and im going to have to drill some lightening holes as well. Chunk started off 37lbs, shape i made cut off 13lbs for a total of 24lbs….alot of weight hanging off rear of boat so want to drop more weight without compromising strength….but overall its a lifetime fix vs worrying about wood degrading again
