I wanted to thank everyone for their help and info over the past two years. I decided to sell my 850 Touring two weeks ago. There were many things I loved about it and I never had any major problems. Two things occurred that made my mind up.
First was a thread about the timing gear slipping on many of these. That was an issue that really freaked me out considering how remote I ride (often alone). Reliability is paramount and there has just been too many quality issues to read about. I know every manufacture has its issues. No need to argue, I’m not brand loyal. I’m very active on multiple forums and this one shows significant reasons for concern over others.
Secondly, I have been desiring a dirt bike. I started riding on three wheelers then on to four wheelers. I owned one dirt bike for a brief period is all. With over two decades of riding I don’t feel very challenged anymore. A modern two wheeler will definitely be a lot to learn in every form from riding style to mechanics and modding.
I went in today and picked up a 2015 Yamaha WR450F that I will be converting to street legal for dual sport riding. It will remain very trail specific in its mods though.
Once again thanks to all and best wishes! I will likely check in occasionally as this is a great forum and I still enjoy its members and topics. Who knows maybe I’ll buy another Polaris down the road. LOL
