I just changed the front diff fluid on my 2014 Touring 570 and was surprised at how dirty the fluid was. The ATV has 130 hours and 1400 miles, mostly on dirt roads. Not a lot of chance to engage the front hub. I thought the fluid would come out clean, but it was dark brown and as you swirled it around in the drain pan you could see plenty of dirt. The drain plug has a magnet and it had captured a lot of filings. I know the front diff has an electronically engaged clutch pack, so I believe the dirtiness comes from that. I refilled it with full synth ATF fluid.
Bottom Line
Don’t go 100hrs before changing the front diff fluid and certainly don’t go 130hrs. Maybe half that long. It only takes 15 minutes and is simple to do. A quart of full synth ATF is less than $5. SO DO IT.
Has anyone else seen this level of dirt in the fluid?
Am I going to find that level of dirt in the fluid when I do the transmission/rear diff?
