Stupid 350 Rancher carb leak

I’ve now taken this carb on and off about 10 times. Seat has been polished, I’ve tried both the old needle and a brand new needle. Thing will seal till I shake the bike, then it starts flowing again.

I spent a couple of hours last night reading old threads and most say to polish the seat, replace the needle, and if it still leaks, replace the carb.

Then I see where people have replaced the carb, and the NEW ONE LEAKS.

Is this just a poorly designed carb or what?

There is a replacement seat and needle for sale on ebay, but since it’s pressed in I’m not sure how to get the old one out (I have a press to press in the new one). Anyone tried this?

Of course, there are china carbs for $45 or so, and while the $15 Honda GX china carb I bought for parts (needed the strainer bowl) ended up working great, I usually stay away from Chinese carbs.

Lastly, I saw this guy who said to raise up the level of the overflow tube and that would stop the leaking. Anyone tried this, and if so, how would one raise the level of the overflow tube?

Very frustrated. This is my neighbors bike and is the last thing I have to get fixed before I can get it out of my yard. He’s already balked at the $$$ for the parts I’ve spent thus far, so a new OEM carb isn’t really in the realm of possibility.
