Stuck in 4WD

I have a 2005 Sportsman 500 that is stuck in 4WD. I took out the front differential, disassembled it on the work bench, but cannot see anything wrong with it. Roll cage looks OK with no cracks and no broken springs. Oil was a little dirty with some metal dust on the drain plug magnet, but not much. Only thing I found that seemed out of the ordinary was that 1/2" metal doll pin was covered with some type of dried out white glue, or caulk, or corrosion when I took it out. Not sure that white stuff was supposed to be there, but I cleaned all of it off. Could that be why it was stuck in 4WD? If not, what else should I be looking for? Any suggestions or help is appreciated. Thank you
