So I wanted to test my battery today. I had thrown a meter on it before an felt like it was dropping to low, but that was several weeks ago. I was headed out of town for work so I didn’t mess with other than adding a battery tender. So today I go out and put my meter on it and set it to record minimum and max. Starts up and drops to about 9.5 vdc. Within what I would consider normal and acceptable. Start it again and as the wheeler begins to crank, it turns over and then a pause and continues to crank. Battery voltage drops to around 5 or 6 vdc. Way low. My question is, is it starting on a compression stroke and it simply having to over come that to start? I’m not overly familiar with single cylinder set ups. The other concern is the battery. If that’s the case, I’m not sure where to call it good as far as a voltage reading when cranking it on a compression stroke. If it fires right over the voltage are good and the there seems to be no slowing or dragging of the starter, but not so much when it has that monetary pause.
