I bought a used 2011 sportsman 850 EPS. It’s my first ATV and I planned on using it just to get around the hunting camp. It was priced right, $3,800, but soon after the engine began smoking and recently it has gotten stuck in high gear. I took it to the local dealer who said there’s something internal in the transmission that’s messed up and opening it up to see what’s wrong would be a lot. They also said the smoking was that it is burning oil and could be indicative of it needing a valve adjustment or possibly the engine rebuilt, both are expensive.

I’m in Northeast Florida and hunt up in Georgia. I’m not sure if fixing it makes sense. I thought just to dump it but the highest offer of gotten is $1000. Hunting season is over and I can figure out what to do next year.
