As I may have posted before, I call my RZR my "bankruptcy starter kit". I have a lot of money into my 800S and I had it just about where I wanted it with accessories and such. Lately I’ve concentrated on the suspension and getting it where it felt good. Often I ride for long days with our RZR Forums local group and I am always looking to improve the ride. I broke my neck just over a year ago so you can understand why. Anyhow, after our ride in Happy Jack this past weekend I was talking to some of our group about the Shock Therapy semi/trailer that was parked behind the lodge. One of my riding friends knows Ernie from way back and told me to go talk to him. The guys at the Shock Therapy trailer were slammed all last weekend but Ernie took time out to answer my questions. Ernie was cordial and very knowledgeable and looked me in the eye as we spoke. He told me since I was running another manufacturers springs he’d prefer I take my rig into him at their shop so he could make better decisions on valving based on my spring package. He didn’t try to sell me another set of springs.
Tuesday of this week I trailered my RZR to his shop and dropped it off. He said it would take half a day. I called him at the time he told me to and he told me to come pick my RZR up, it would be done by the time I drove out to him (about 50 minute drive). Sure enuf, they were done with my rig and I asked another dozen questions or so before I left. I was finally able to take it out this a.m. Drove Castle Hot Springs road and the river bottoms near Lake Pleasant then I connected with Cow Creek road towards the abandoned airstrip 3 miles north of the lake. I’d already been driving for several hours and had adjusted the shocks a few times but I decided hauling ass across the airfield would be the ultimate test. AZ folks who know the airfield know it’s tore up, lots of ruts and whoop de doos. Now I gotta be me, so I pull off of the graded road at about 35mph and punch it to 40. Rode all the way across the airfield and for the majority of the ride it was surprisingly soft riding. Only hit a couple of bumps that felt like big bumps but never got out of shape or lost traction. With the upgraded spring kit I could never do more than 25mph before getting into a cyclical motion from the whoops.
Ernie told me he’d adjust the settings so the ride was "plush". Nailed it!!!!!! I can’t put into words how happy I am that I made the decision to upgrade my suspension. My little 800S rides like a Cadillac. Ernie, thank you so much for putting up with my myriad of questions. It’s how I tell the poser from the professional. Professional is what I experienced with Shock Therapy. Thanks guys!
