Salish Mountains

Howdy,

Well, a journey to the Salish has been complete, and a burning desire to go back. 225 miles, and I don’t think I scratched the surface.

This is an ancient mountain range, upwards of 50 inches of annual precipitation on it, with 70% of it being snow, 250 inches. It ranges from 2500 ft to 7500, so you get a diversity of trees and fauna that is unheard of in 95% of places out west. Its so thick in foliage, I couldn’t see anything but the trails. The feeling in this forest is, your all alone, a very peaceful feeling. I ventured into the Salish 50 miles, and setup a 3 day base camp. I picked up my black bear and wolf hunting license in case I got lucky. I did not, but I saw the biggest Moose that I’ve ever seen, 100’s of white tail, and grouse.

The forest is full of major game, this is not a riding area outside of your local town, this is a full cycle grizzly bear, all ungulates, biodiversity of a area pluck full of rivers, lakes, and streams. Lost cell service 2 hours out, didn’t see a fence or house last hour in. God’s country.

1 pic of me on the highway, that is a police vehicle coming at me, and yes I have my hunter orange on and a rifle, .300 win mag, and I’m 100% legal.
