I was about to head off base, driving about 20 mph when I heard a clanking noise from the engine bay and the RZR started to slow. The Engine was still running and as I applied more gas, the RZR continued to go slower while the clanking got louder. As I stopped, it sputtered out until it died and would not restart.
It is a 2013 RZR 800 S LE and the only mod I have done thus far is I snorkeled it (and ran all vent lines up to snorkel height) and applied dielectric grease to all of the electrical connections. It has run fine twice since those mods for about 3-4 hours each time with no issues.
What I know so far…
– The fuel pump is working fine (pulled the line off and turned ignition on, fuel shot up about 8-10")
– Fuel appears clean, no dirt/debris in tank
– The air filter is not clogged
– The CVT belt is good (practically band new, can still see the numbers on it)
– Engine still turns over, although there is a bit of a grinding noise (this worries me)
– Oil level is good, Oil is clean (no metal shavings, a little dark)
– Getting compression at the exhaust pipe while engine is turning over
– No status lights on the instrument cluster
Has anyone had any similar experiences? I’d like to get some advice before I start blindly ripping the valve cover off my engine (although I have a feeling I’ll be doing that anyway in order to figure out the grinding sound).
Thank you in advance for any assistance anyone can provide.
