Rocket Rides a Dead Grizzly

Thread title courtesy of smart azz wgc

Was out on a ride and almost back to the truck. Went ahead and stopped with some other riders but I didn’t stop the engine. The the engine just stopped by itself. I tried restarting it but there was an obvious electrical issue, no power. The voltmeter I installed dropped down to 6V and then started climbing back up to 8 something volts. Grizz still wouldn’t start.

Got it home and immediately found what caused the issue

That is easy to take care of, a resplice and add a wiring cover for protection. However, I’m still faced with a dead Grizzly.

I have tested all fuses for continuity and all of them are good. Relays tested for continuity:

Starting circuit cut-off relay
Fuel injection system relay

I have taken off and opened the handlebar left main switch and found nothing that would cause concern. I did finally test it and has continuity at least on the kill switch wires. I have one on order but don’t believe it will solve my problem.

I am still getting low voltage to the 12V accessory plug, about 8V. It is leading me to believe there is a short somewhere that ultimately feeds the 12V plug. I have yet to find that short but there is such a tangled web of wires, some mine and some OEM, that it is troublesome trying to find this short. I also do not know yet what is feeding the 12V accessory.

I have to run off to work so I won’t have time for further testing until this evening.
