Regret purchase – what now!!

Hello hondaatvforum

I recently purchased a mid 90s trx300 4×4 that I am very disappointed in. Everything is in 100% working order and the unit itself had very low usage when I bought it last month but there seem to be a few glowing handicaps that don’t seem reversible.

I just can’t stand how rough and uncomfortable the ride is. I did my research before buying and everything I read assured me that the ride would be just as good as my friends rancher 420 With the solid rear axle. Well that proved to be completely false! The rancher is a Cadillac in comparision to my little 300!

I was also lead to believe that the little 300 would be more nimble than my friends slighly bigger 420 in the woods. Bad info again apparently because the ranchers ability to switch in and out of 4wd makes it have a extremly tighter turning radius while also allowing it to the slide the rear end out of tight corners. The 300 seems to want to pull forward, even when you turn the handlebars because the front end is always grabbing. It’s obviously not a problem in loose terrain but some of the hard packed around here is straight up frustrating to tackle with a machine that doesn’t disengage the front axle. It also makes the steering heavy.

I could go on all day but you guys get the point. Seems like it was more meant to be a farm tool than a serious trail conqueror.

I plan on selling the 300 and am now in the market for a used Honda ATV between 4 and 5k dollars. I’d like a trail oriented suspension, the ability to disengage the front wheels and even independent suspension in the rear if it’s available. I ride Rocky/muddy mountain trails in WV and hit up H/Mc every now and again.

So what would make the best trail ATV out of the 05-10 Honda Atvs? I like my friends 420 a lot and would be perfectly compliant with one but if I have the opportunity to get something bigger/better, I may just jump on it. Only stipulation is that it MUST be a Honda
