Just did a lower end rebuild on a 700 efi motor and the timing was 180 deg off (blowing from intake/sucking thru exhaust). I pulled the side cover and the cam gear, rotated the crank 180 and installed the cam gear back. No dice. Took the cover off again, this time observing the valve sequence and it seems as if the timing mark on the cam gear is 180 deg off. I adjusted the cam and reinstalled the cam gear with the mark 180 deg from the balancer timing mark and the engine is actually trying to crank up, but still wont quite get going. Anyone experienced a similar timing issue before or can give me and idea of how to go about timing the motor with incorrect timing marks?
I know, I should have marked the gear before disassembly, but I relied on the manual for reassembly. Next time!
